A lot goes into calculating a player's budget charge or "Cap Hit"... and a lot of the info required to calculate it isn't readily available to the public (signing bonuses, housing/car allowances, performance bonuses, marketing bonuses, etc.) .
Thanks for that link. I was always a little confused when it came to the cap and cap space. That helped clarify things a bit for me.

Breaking News. It looks like Marcel de Jong has been released by @SportingKC ............. Would be a good pick up for TFC.

This must be for salary compliant reasons just like the departure of Nemeth.

De Jong is a good player. We have Morrow and Morgan at LB though. I'd like him but in a compliant salary structure league; in my opinion not sure if we could make room for him.

Not sure what kind of $$ he is on but unless we are going to play him at LM/LW i don't see a fit with us.

He has experience in the midfield.
Although if he's called up to Canada he'll be missing similar games to our other internationals either way.

Does the permanent loan have to be done at the start of the season? We currently have one roster spot open (two if we use a permanent). Any chance we start the year with both Endoh and Babouli on TFC2 contracts, wait until they are needed before giving them an MLS deal (kind of like Simonin last year), then use the permanent loan if and when we sign the second one of them. Could help defer the decision to see who would be best to use on the loan (ie, Hamilton, Babouli, Endoh). If there's a season long injury (ala Bloom last year) I assume there's some sort of rule that would prevent us permanently loaning that player to free up a roster spot, or could that be an (unfortunate, no one likes injuries) loophole

A player out for the season doesn't occupy a roster spot anyways. The catch is you don't get cap relief for a player out with injury, but I doubt you would get cap relief with a USL loan either

I would like the move but i don't see a spot on our team for him, would rather he go somewhere he can get solid playing time.

During Copa i guess you could slot oso into the AM role and have him play on the left but i don't see vanney picking him over morrow.

So Robbie Findley is no longer with the Reds as per a tweet from John.

    John Molinaro@JohnMolinaro 12m12 minutes ago
Since I've been asked, Robbie Findley no longer with the team. He cleared re-entry. But am told #TFC won't bring him back at less $.

So is Moore the only player from last year's roster that is up in the air for this season? I think so.

I'm fairly sure that releasing Moore is the plan. But they have to hope that a team in England will want to sign him. They still need to become cap compliant, so unless they trade a draft pick for GAM, they have to let someone go, and everyone but Moore seems to be in the plans.

'releasing' him does not address the specific issue with the cap. For his salary to come off the books and for the Reds to get to (or get closer to) cap compliance he has to 'go' somewhere (ie. a club in England - another MLS club, etc.). His contract (and consequent MLS cap hit) remains in force for TFC if they just simply show him the door. TFC had only one opportunity to release someone without a cap penalty as a consequence and that was already used on Kantari.

There's no cap penalty if they don't pay him to leave. That's why he's on trial in England. They're hoping a team over there will offer him something comparable to his salary here so that he'll agree to terminate his contract.

For those few suggesting Gomez could leave, MLS just put out a video, with him and Seba starting it off. He ain't going nowhere.

Gomez played well in a very limited sample size for us last season. I think he can contribute a lot more if he is given the opportunity.

Usually when someone has to be moved for compliance reasons, they don't play much or at all in preseason. Two years ago it was Laba. The only time he played a preseason game was at RB. Last year it was Gilberto. This year, it's pretty obvious who that guy is.

I'm certainly still very happy with Johnson, but in terms of building our team this off-season (on paper, anyways) maybe this is the guy we should have went after to fill in our midfield instead.

    I'd take Johnson every time.

Would suggest that means quite little.

Count me as not a fan of Koffie. Mucks up the play too much for his own team (although he does the same to the other team's attack).

Marketing means a lot to these people. If a player is going to be gotten rid of, he's not in the marketing.

It's a promo for the ASG (and a surprisingly good one at that). No way Herc is in the video if there is even a whiff of him possibly getting waived. On the other hand, he's not wearing any team logos, so ???????

Herc is involved with the MLS media team in some capacity I believe... he was on their panel for MLS playoffs and also did some non-TFC related PR stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a MLS decision to have him in there with Seba and not TFC's.

Could be a scheduling thing as well. Both Jozy and Michael had international duty.

Memory is fuzzy, but I believe we've seen this happen before.

I think he's in the plans - just wouldn't put any stock in promos.
