When giovinco started scoring, he messed up Vanney's plan. Seba wasn't suppose to be a striker, but how do you NOT play him as one? TFC is forced to play with 2 attackers nows, so the only variation that could happen is the midfield.

What does Bradley play? CM? Then Cheyrou has to go if they want Johnson. If they want to keep Cheyrou, Johnson isn't coming.

EDIT: Or they trade / bench Altidore.

The thing about WJ is that he comes from same run around like a chicken with his head cut off school of soccer, same as Michael Bradley minus the passing ability.

Though that might turn out to work out, bc both Bradley and WJ have good stamina and ok pace in the midfield, and Vanney plays 4-4-2 with double pulley. Osorio becomes 3rd CM off the bench.

I think the plan last year was Bradley CM, Seba AM and Jozy CF.

We ended up with Bradley AM and Seba and Jozy as strikers.

If Bradley wants to be more advanced then we need 2 guys sitting behind him to provide cover.

They could go for a diamond again but then you really need your L/R mids to be good defensively. I have trouble finding a system that fits all 3 of our DP's without leaving the back exposed.

To be fair I haven't watched much of Will Johnson but do you not think he could be the single pivot in front of our D or would we still rock the double pivot? If he's not able to play that role then I wonder if the best way to use our talent would be:

    --------- --Altidore----------
    ---Seba---New/Oso---Delgado/New
    --------Bradley----Johnson------

    Biinnnnnnnnnnnnggggoooooo.

Reason why TFC played quite well with either Bradley or Altidore missing.

I think it could work but it would almost need to be a similar system to what Floro does with Canada. Bradley/Oso/Johnson as the 3 CMs with 2 of them constantly covering, would be a complicated system but could work if they players stay disciplined.

Also Bradley seams like he will always be playing higher up the pitch, limiting his responsibilities by having 2 competent players behind him is likely whats necessary.

big thing about WJ and MB is they will likely miss alot of game - WJ always misses a third of the games due to injuries and MB misses a ton of games due to national team service. I'd pass on WJ unless it was largely playing-time based bonuses.

Johnson isn't what we need, forget the 'vaguely Canadian' factor. We already have enough centre-mids who are 'jacks of all trades, masters of none.' I want defined roles on this team.

As for Seba at attacking mid, only Vanney and Bez were clueless enough to think that's where he was going to play. Anyone who knew the guy knew he'd end up second striker or winger. Lone ST in a 4-2-3-1 was a humorous surprise though.

it goes to show you...how Bez and Vanney have no clue on what they are doing, they thought Seba was a attacking mid when they signed him.

Why do you think Seba playing AM is so crazy?
I actually think he would perform really well in that position for a top flight European team.

I'm pretty critical of our current management. However, Seba did often play as an AM before coming to Toronto. There were also some questions how Seba would adapt to the quirks and simplistic physicality of MLS -- just like any foreign player coming to MLS, and especially considering his size. It wasn't crazy to think he might play AM for TFC, where he wouldn't have to battle as much with the powerful defensive oafs & iffy officiating you often find in MLS. Plus remember many were screaming that we need "better service" after problems providing opportunities to Defoe, and many previous strikers at TFC.

I think Seba quickly showed that he would adapt very well to MLS. He didn't often have big problems with the brute physicality, although some teams did manage to shut us down. Where necessary, he drifted to the left or back into midfield to escape some of the pressure, and attack from there. Seba showed that he could provide his own service, or provide service to others, whatever worked. So giving him a free attacking role was good for the team & good for Seba. And still, with the way he dropped to the back or to the left, he did in fact sometimes play an AM role for stretches.

So they rightly figured, a guy like that is best left to do whatever he thinks is best at the moment. That will provide the most success in MLS. He won't often pressure the opposition as the first line of defense, but that's fine, that's one reason he stayed fit and almost always played 90 minutes. But it means the midfield behind him has to adapt to both support & protect behind Seba. We often didn't have the right guys and/or the right tactics for that.

Another potential CB option available as Pogatetz had his option declined by Columbus. Made $262k last year.

Camara would be a great utility player to cover Jackson's spot. I think he's a domestic by now too, been playing for the Impacts since 2012.

You sure you were watching the right Seba? I'd advise against going by what Bez said, he probably didn't know who Giovinco was until he was looking up expiring European contracts.

Keep in mind players available for the re-entry draft can still be re-signed by their current teams up to and on December 10th, so some guys may disappear from that list before the draft begins. Free agency begins tomorrow at 1pm ET.

Targets I would imagine we have our eye on and current salary...

Free agents: Larentowicz (271k), Moor (270k), Mapp (199k)

Re-entry: Tally Hall (228k), Beitashour (197k), Schuler (182k), Pappa (75k, but this number is probably wrong)

I don't see Dan Kennedy on there anywhere. Did Dallas re-sign him?

DM: Ricardo Clark OR Will Johnson
    CB: Schuler OR Moor
    RB: International
    GK: Tally Hall

Right side we can figure out as season progresses.

You sure you were watching the right Seba? I'd advise against going by what Bez said, he probably didn't know who Giovinco was until he was looking up expiring European contracts.
I just know that Sebastian Giovinco was listed as "Forward, Attacking midfielder." I had never followed him so I didn't know the breakdown between the two. See Areathrasher's table above for the number of games played at each position, according to Transfermarkt. Certainly played more games at forward than anywhere in MF, but not exclusively.

Camera is available? How much does he make? Plays RB and CB. Everytime I watched him, he has been solid. People forget he stopped Altidore from tying the game 2-2 in Montreal in the dying minutes last game of the season. Missed 21 games tho over the last 2 years. That's worrying, but he's 29. And no prior injuries before that.
