You're right it's not, but there's no point in me putting up a lineup with "new CB - New CB" in it. Add two new CBs in and the results are still going to be the same. Why? Because for this team's entire existence they have continually failed to sign a good CB. It doesn't matter if they bring in a 100k CB or a 400k CB, the results are the same. In fact, the more money they spend on trying to sign good CBs, the bigger the failure since they lose all room to maneuver. If they can find a way to dump both Kantari and Perquis, and bring in a Waston, then that would be great. But if we can't get rid of both CBs, then signing another 200-300k CB allocates a lot of money to that area for a low chance of improvement. I'm all for improving the back line, but other than saying figure out how to sign a solid CB for 200-300k, there isn't really anything to talk about on that front. My way of improving the defense is by improving the midfield in front of it. Adding Johnson would add more steel to midfield and make it harder for the opposition to cut through the middle on the counter. Also, with Johnson and Bradley covering ground, Cheyrou's lack of mobility isn't as much of an issue.

    Perquis is staying.

He had a run of 5 games until his last injury where he was really good. He made Williams look competent. Kantari will be let go - he reminds me of Orr. The media yell up and down about the defence in the Montreal games, with Devos and Jack saying nobody in that defence can defend - but Perquis wasn't there and they themselves were saying he was doing good before his injury. Media love narratives.

A good DM, another good CD, a RB and a keeper.

Expect player turnover coming from the Fire. Already brought their new GM in and now their whole coaching staff was just fired.

Could be some pieces worth looking at.

I would bring in Edgar and Jakovic at the back 500 combined

    Trade Altidore for Larin
Get allocation for Bradley from NY based club.

Then bring in Hoilett on TAM
    Buy Hutchinson DP
    Buy Jonathan De Guzman DP
Sign Julian De Guz 100-150 and Bojan 250-300

    Play 4-1-4-1

    Bojan
    Morrow Edgar Jakovic Morgan
    De Guz
    Hoilett hutch Jono Giovinco
    Larin

Jeff Larentowicz would be a good pick-up.
David Accam would also be nice (to replace Moore, keep Herc).

-Bojan, would be a great pick up for TFC, but I doubt he would make the move. I think for the type of talent he brings, he would have to make less in MLS. I have doubts TFC would waste a DP spot for him.
-Edgar, same thing, he would have to take a pay cut.
-DeGuzman, should be brought in.........Jonathan DeGuzman as a DP. Solid upgrade.
-Hoilett, would benefit from being a DP in this league, but a right footed left winger as a DP. Could be genius or fall flat.
-Hutchinson, would be on the same rate as Will Johnson, and I dont think he would reliable physically.
-Larin, I would fear he would suffer from high expectations and a lack of coaching. He's better off playing with Kaka in Orlando. Why would anyone leave anyways.

-S. Jackson, his contract is up in January 2016. He could play as winger on either side.
-A. Straith, could play centre back or right back. He would be a good pick up.

I don't get the fascination some people have with signing players from the CMNT....

If they are better then what we can get then sure, but to limit the team to them is just dumb. IMO we should get our Canadian players from the academy, TFC goal is to win an MLS Championship not develop the CMNT. If the academy helps develop the talent then sure, but to suggest that we should solely focus on Canadians is not practical and as per MLS rules they are considered internationals and there is a finite amount available per team

Also, one last thing we complain about Bradely and Altidore missing time due to playing for the US, if we had team that was dependent on CMNT players what happens when they get called. As suggest above we trade 2 US internationals and sign all of those players we would lose 90% of that line up. How does that help TFC?

They are internationals for American teams, domestics for the 3 Canadian teams.

If I was in charge, I'd build the team to a 4-3-3 to bring out the best in Bradley, Oso and Giovinco. We would need more forward/wingers and athletic defensive mids.

    1. Trade Altidore
    2. Trade Warner
    3. Trade Jackson
    4. Trade for Alonso
    5. Resign Findley to lesser cap hit
    6. Use TAM on a creative winger.
    6. Sign Mo Babouli to HG contract.
    7. Sign/trade backup defensive mid.
    8. Sign/trade for starting direct winger/forward
    9. Sign/trade for new right back.
    10. Sign/trade new CB
    11. Sign/trade GK

    In the end:

    -------TAM winger--------Giovinco-----------winger/striker--
    ----------------Osorio-----------------Bradley-----------------
    ----------------------------Alonso------------------------------
    ---Morrow----Perquis---------------New CB-------New RB--
    ---------------------------New GK-----------------------------

    Backup FW:
    Findley
    Babouli
    Gomez

    Backup MF:
    Delgado
    Chapman
    Mannella

    Backup DF:
    Morgan
    Simonen
    Zavaleta
    Williams

Honestly, if JDG was willing to come at $150K or so then I would do it. He could do a job for us.

Not sure if serious? He wouldn't even get out if bed for 150k....especially not $150k Canadian and then getting screwed via massive taxes...

We pay salaries in USD, and $150k is probably in the ballpark of what he's currently making with Ottawa... it's NASL. The guy is not rolling in cash.

If TFC blow up the team again I quite.
That is what you are asking.

Any of the De Guzman's would also make me leave, They are both overrated.
    Altidore is not leaving.
    Bradley is not leaving.
You are wanting that many Canadian players is suicide, in my opinion.

For $150K he would be a solid veteran bench option and could cover a lot of the holes we're going to have next year with all the international matches. I didn't say starter.

Now he probably thinks he's worth more than that but I wouldn't go much higher.

For 150K we can get faster and younger at that position.

Cheyrou is sticking around - he's in the promotion info going out.

I would not put him on the team - he's simply too slow to play in MLS at this stage. I say that as someone who hugely admired his early career and thinks the way we tried to use him as a DP was completely rediculous.

I'm not sure why the money would be a sticking point. He's playing in the NASL for Ottawa - not like that pay packet is large.

I think Og has the right idea.

This is a big off season for Bez. We've somewhat neglected in acquiring affordable, domestic talent to build a solid core over the past couple years, mostly because I think most of the last two off seasons were focused on landing huge fish with mega deals. Then of course we filled the squad with Expensive French players that I assume came through Vanney's connections.

So this is it this year. Our DPs are set and a few positions are settled. Let's see if Bez can hit the re-entry draft and land better than Findley or pull off a few trades that don't see us eating crappy contracts. If our answers are our usual overpaying for internationals to fill gaps then we'll be the same as always. Until we manage a decent, affordable core then we'll always be thin. Drafting someone useful would be a bonus.

    Bez and Vanney connections.

The agency that represents Kantari and Perquis are heavily involved with MLS HQ, they facilitated the training course for MLS coaches with the French FA. Armen Bedikan dug up the details a few weeks back.

The agency name is Elite Athlete Corps and their FB page has some interesting photos

And here's one from the coaches training course, look who's standing next to each other while one was working in MLS HQ and the other with Chivas

The thing I'm looking forward to most this off season is getting a decent keeper.

I'm not looking forward to us avoiding the issues of a DM and right side midfield, although I'm hoping that Delgado can be that RM.

Remind me, is there anybody young on the depth chart we can bring up to try to get time to learn to be a decent DM at this level? We don't have to buy everything.

My understanding is Champman, Aparicio and Manella are not that defensive minded.
