But you are taking the fact that they do not pressure the back line when they have the ball, and in this case it speaks only about Jozy, because Seba generally does, to extrapolate this into all kinds of missed defensive duties. Pressuring the back line does largely contribute to the other team making mistakes/turnovers, and not holding the ball well, and the lack of if can create more pressure on our defenders as the opposition can counter quicker. But if you know it is happening, as the chicago coach did, it can be countered, by shielding the back line and not playing so far up.
Having said that the point remain, putting our defensive failings on the forwards, as you do, is silly, DESPITE this learned article, the fact remains the forwards have least defensive responsablities on any team, and work rate is of little significance. Again this is about Jozy, he was brought in being the player that he is, hopefully Vanney did not expect him to track back to our box and defend every time we did not have the ball. I saw what he looked when he tried and he was exhausted after 45 minutes, and it is natural, it is not easy to give it all on attack and then track back 90 meters, to give it all defending. This is not an ice ring.
Altidore is a better partner for Giovinco, because of the way he plays and his size. He is not perfect, but his size and style complement Gio. I would also say that he is a better finisher, yes some of his goals are sitters thank to Giovinco, but Gilberto had the ability to fuck them up on occasion. I was not anti-Gilberto by any stretch I still like him and if we did not have the DP cap, I would like to see him on the team, but his style is not of a more classic 9, he is something of a combination player.
Matthew Doyle is paid by MLS to analyse MLS but does not hold his punches. He is generally considered the most astute observer of this league when it comes to tactics and the role of the individual players in all that.
I remember that NYRB game vividly. Gio never saw the ball because they totally dominated us in midfield. He wound up going back to get the ball, and we were totally pulled out of shape.
That is how we are going to lose in the playoffs too, unless we figure that out.
btw it's crap to say Gio never pressures, a number of his goals have come from turnovers he has created. He is selective though. But he causes havoc/fear when he does it.

He has the highest GK salary on the team. If Bendik was highest in the league, then Bez should have been fired.
They'll start playing Bendik to hopefully increase his trade value once TFC gets a couple of wins. If Bez can't swing a trade (maybe for second round draft pick and/or allocation?), I think Bendik is going to the reentry draft come end of season.

Good call. Creavalle's goal vs. San Jose and Giovinco stealing the ball and feeding Delgado for his goal vs. NYC come to mind. He's smart with it - picks his moments to apply pressure when there's actually a decent chance of making something happen rather than chasing everything and ultimately wasting energy.
I think I heard that this was it. And yup, into the re-entry draft with him.
Bendik was signed to a new deal in Dec 2013
Standard MLS player contracts are 2+2. 2 year contract plus 2 one year team options.
