Sorry to hear about Graham Leggat.

He once referred to the style of play used by the Spain team at (I think) the 1982 World Cup as "If it moves, kick it; if it doesn't move, kick it 'til it does."
O, Maple Leaf around the world, You speak as you rise high above,
Of courage, peace and quiet strength, Of the Canada that I love.
Remind us all, our union bound by ties we cannot sever,
Bright flag revered on every ground, The Maple Leaf forever

interesting/curious about the Graham Leggat thing from a historical perspective re: Soccer Saturday.

Showing some of our ages, there is a segment of supporters in Canada who in the 80s into early 90s I guess got their fix from this show on TSN every week. Kiddies, this is pre-internet and pre- what I'd say is the really big global expansion of soccer tv contracts etc around ~2000...

I remember friends who were die hard about it before what we now take for granted on a Saturday with so many channels and regular streams of information thanks to the internet.

That all being said, I'd say the impact of Soccer Saturday to the game and support in Canada is pretty damn big. And without a resource like it to keep the support flame burning in people's hearts, we might not have some of the concrete core basis for RPB as it began (stretching but you get my point)

    RIP

too funny, thinking back to getting up early on Saturday, to get some clips.

Leggat's show was all we had at one time.

I'm having trouble finding any old clips of the show on YouTube.

Anyone remember Dick Howard/Mike Povey doing games? Also in the 80's.
    Condolences to Leggat's family.

Even though CBC just showed old EPL games(a few days, weeks old), Graham's pre, mid and post game commentaries educated me.
