Saw Steve Nash in Garber's box for the game. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
Maybe they are going to announce the fact that Steve Nash is a fan and he is going to donate to the new SSS fund for Vancouver!!!
Yes? Yes?
No?
Okay fine, I guess it'll be an expansion team
Vancouver Nashs!!!!

I wonder if this is just a case of Vancouver indicating more formally their intentions to apply to enter the league, or to talk about the upgrading of BC Place... or maybe they finally came to an agreement on an SSS with the city.
Saputo is not staging a conference, and I thought they'd be much further ahead.
Although Vanny makes sense in a way as an immediate rival for Seattle, which is kind of in the middle of nowhere in the MLS map. and they are gonna have so many long flights as it is.
This is bad for tfc imo. Ottawa or Montreal will make a great rival. We will bring thousands to away games. but now, it will be hard to get a lot of ppl travel to vancouver. no rivalry!
Saputo the mafia is not going to get a MLS team, period! Eugene M will get one in Ottawa before Saputo. Montreal can stay in a shite league.
Personally I don't think it has anything to do with either BC Place or their own SSS. Everything that had to be announced about BC Place has already been announced. Don't think they will have anything substantial to say about that stadium before 2011 (or as soon as the new roof is installed). And from what I've heard just recently, the SSS deal is still as far away from being approved as it ever was. The Port Authority is being a major dick about the deal.
It can't be anything else but MLS related. If its not the announcement that they are the 17th team, it's probably something lame like them formally making a bid for one of those two spots under the helm of Steve Nash (thus formally introducing Nash to the Whitecap fans).
/\I'm thinking this too. Some sort of announcement that Nash and his investor group are working with Kerfoot to bid for an expansion slot. I hope it's all that and more though. Here is what I found so far about tomorrow -
MEDIA ADVISORY

For Immediate Release: July 24, 2008
VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC TO ANNOUNCE FUTURE PLANS
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC will be making a major announcement about the future of soccer in Vancouver and British Columbia.
When: Friday, July 25, 2008
Time: 11:00 a.m.
steve nash is dropping basketball.... playing for the whitecaps. too bad for phoenix.
Its probably a stadium announcement
Metro? Come on.
Again, I refuse to take to pay any attention to an organization that employs Marty York.
Portland may quite possibly get a team before Montreal does.
It is just to officially annonce that they have applied to the league. The commish has stated that they will expand by 2 teams in 2011. No decision tiday. I suspect decision in november at the last governors meeting during MLS cup.
Portland has a strong fan base. I was at the TFC-Portland game last year. Their fans are great! They sang the Canadian national anthem. They need a soccer stadium tho. They are currently playing on a baseball field and it sucks BIG TIME!
My guess is one team in the west and one in the east. Hate to say this, but portland deserves a MLS team. prolly more than vancouver.
Montreal will get an MLS team in 2011...Didn't any of you watch the Garber interview last night? He practically said as much. With Gillette and Saputo together it's a done deal.
This isn't really news, it's just about Nash "officially" joining a bid for an MLS club for Vancouver.
Links to listen to the streamed conference starting at 2 p.m. Eastern.
Thank you. I was looking for this.
"Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports
listening to the press conference now...
Nash is joining ownership group, Vancouver is applying for MLS.
