Default DeRo Testimonial Match: June 20, 3 PM

    DERO TESTIMONIAL MATCH
    SATURDAY, JUNE 20, 2015
    3 PM - BMO FIELD

    http://www.torontofc.ca/derotestimonial

With the formal announcement of DeRo's retirement yesterday, TFC also revealed that they will be hosting a testimonial match for the Canadian legend on June 20 at 3 pm before the Reds host NYCFC later in the evening.

What at a special afternoon it will be, let's pack the southend one last time for a true TFC hero, who will ever forget that wet rainy evening where he put the team on his back, Montreal Miracle.

it'l;l be two sides of his friends in the game, former managers, teammates etc.

it'll be interesting to see who's able to make it, and if there's anyone from those TFC teams he was on that he feels close to.

It would be amazing if Landon was able to come for one last runout with his friend and teammate, that would be great to see.

It figure we will see teammates from all places he played, Houston, San Jose, Canada, Toronto etc., will be fun to see.

It's a tradition from England. It started back when players made little money. The player would get the proceeds from the match as a way to build a nest egg (or start to) for retirement.

In the modern game, players with 10 years of service to a club have them, and donate the proceeds to charity.

It probably will be fun to see, and i wouldn't be surprised to see Landon Donovan, Ian Russell, Brian Ching, and Pat Onstad all out for this game.

I think it would be great if we could fundraise some money and make a donation to the DeRo Foundation on behalf of The RPB!!

Only cause some of them got caught not declaring it as income.

Should be interesting who shows up on relatively short notice. Means the stadium is open 4 hours before the game too. A lazy get in time.

Here is the roster from Brian Ching's testimonial match, which DeRo played in. Will give you an idea of who we might see.

This is great. Does anyone know when they would announce the rosters for the game?

Yeah, sounds great! Never been to a testimonial match before, and a great way to show appreciation for DeRo.

I remember as a kid going to a testimonial for a Doncaater Rovers player (don't recall who it was) and one of my heroes Sir Bobby Charlton played. I remember waiting to get his autograph after the game and he was driving a Corvette which was a very rare sight in the UK.
I know, not really relevant to this game but a fun memory for me lol

3 PM testimonial match.....7 PM game. That would leave 2 hours in between if the match takes about 2 hours. Not sure I want to kill 2 hrs in the BMO parking lot or the stands if they let people stay. Guess I can walk north to grab a bite or something. I will think about it. Would be cool to see.

Given Dero's continued affiliation with MLSE and how he seems to hang out with Raptors/Blue Jays players, I wonder if we'll see Bautista or Lowry on the pitch. That'd be pretty cool.

Dam that would be amazing if certain friends of the RPB could make that happen. Just worth it right there.

Plus would love to see these to lads reconnect.

I would love to see Rick Titus out there. he would be only be.. let me see, around 46?

He never played with TFC while DeRo was here (he played that one infamous game against Chivas in 2008 where our scout also played), but he played for the Toronto Lynx in 1997 (DeRo was also with the Lynx in 1997).
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
