Rodgers did very well at Swansea. Liverpool was just a move to a club with massive expectations. (I would argue they were unrealistic expectations). He hasn't done anything for me that wouldn't suggest that he's going to have a good management career at the right club(s).

    From: http://www.football-italia.net/76048...-wants-mls-job

Walter Mazzarri is currently in England, but reportedly looking for a MLS job with Toronto FC the favourites. The former Sampdoria, Napoli and Inter Coach has been out of work for a year since he was fired by the Nerazzurri to make way for Roberto Mancini.

It’s well known he has been living in England with a family near Manchester, aiming to learn the language and widen his professional horizons.

Until now it was believed that this was preparation for a Premier League position, but Calciomercato.com claim Mazzarri is really heading for North America.

His representative Andrea D’Amico is currently in Toronto and reported to be asking around for clubs who are interested in taking Mazzarri on.

The favourites are Toronto FC, where he’d get to work with fellow Italian Sebastian Giovinco.

I think that's a bit of a leap being made because D'Amico is Seba's agent.

Manning would've hired Kreis if he'd wanted to make a change.

Yeah, this is bogus. Doesn't make any sense to pass on Kreis, publicly back Vanney, then hire a foreign coach a couple weeks later.

Maybe if we had brought in Gandini or one of the other Italians rumoured to be interested in the President role, but those rumours flamed out too.

Kreis may not have been interested in the TFC job. Think about it: Kreis can pick and choose any club he wants in the MLS - why would he pick us?

Walter Mazzarri would be a great choice. Compare his coaching experience with that of Vanney for a little fun.

It just doesn't mean that you're guaranteed to win the league. 3 DP's will give you an edge, but the rest of the team has to be good also of course - and you need a good coach.

Perhaps Kreis just didn't want to coach TFC?

I love Mazzarri. He's a smart coach and his animated character is entertaining to watch. One major problem though: he's always been adamant on a 3-back formation. The thought of this team playing with three defenders? Scary. It requires a level of IQ that MLS players generally don't have, let alone this group of guys. On the other hand, Mazzarri has 100x the IQ of Vanney so I'd still take it in a heartbeat, even with the dangers associated with foreign coaches in this peculiar league.

This. You can put Mazzari and Gattuso in the same front office (ie elsewhere)

Even if Kreis wasn't interested I seriously doubt Manning would hire a foreign coach with no MLS experience.

I would take Kreis any day over Mazzarri simply based on the fact of MLS experience, thus understanding the league and what it entails. I truly believe that if Jason wanted this job or was at least interested Manning would have entertained the change.

agreed ...missed opportunity , pretty sure Manning won't do it . Hey we're know here in Toronto to be non-demanding and accept teams with poor performances , so why rock the boat ? We'll go through another year of almosts , get asked for another price hike and sometime when Gio gets pissed , maybe then the FO will panic . Dull but predicable .

    http://www.football-italia.net/76094...ing-toronto-fc says:

Reports are multiplying that Walter Mazzarri is in negotiations to take over MLS club Toronto FC.

The former Inter Coach is still on the payroll at San Siro, having been sacked a year ago to make way for Roberto Mancini.

He has been living in England over the last few months in a bid to improve his language skills.

It had until recently been believed this was to prepare him for a position in the English Premier League.

Instead, reports emerged that his agent was in Canada for talks with Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.

Now those rumours are spreading like wildfire to Sky Sport Italia, Tuttosport, the Corriere dello Sport and La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mazzarri would be able to work with Italian talent Sebastian Giovinco and replace current manager Greg Vanney.

Does anybody that speaks Italian know Sky Sport Italia, Tuttosport, the Corriere dello Sport and La Gazzetta dello Sport are saying anything new or just recycling the same report?

I don't speak Italian, but this makes no sense on so many levels ....

It's manager dumping season in Europe. This is just how agents put candidates in the shop window. But if Manning comes to believe that Gio's agent is undermining Vanney, that won't exactly be good for the relationship between Manning and Gio's agent. Which may be part of the point.

We should have our own manger speculation thread. This fits in nicely with the guy who said back in April that an Italian was coming within weeks to be President/GM/Coach/Striker/Keeper/midfielder/defender/capo/bitchie/dudepouringbeerinmysection.

I want to see a Canadian source corroborate this. Until then I put zero stock in this being true.

Well, he would easily be the biggest name & most accomplished coach to ever work in the MLS if signed by us. I'm very skeptical also, but with TFC you just never know.

We have a lot of contacts in Italy, so it kinda makes some sense to me on that level. Also don't underestimate the involvement of Giovinco and his agent. Giovinco doesn't want to be managed by a rookie like Vanney. The main reason why I don't see this happening is that Mazzarri is a million dollar coach +. His salary at Inter was 3.2 million Euro per year. We'd likely have to pay more. That would easily make him the most expensive coach in MLS history by a lot. Kreis was top guy with his 1 million at NYCFC. Don't see us paying 5 times that for anyone. BUT you never know.

It could just be Amico shopping his client around.

Not the first time MLS has been used to inflate interest on a guy
