    Default MLS Week 8

Starts with 2 games on Friday night

    NYCFC at Chicago 8 pm

    Dallas at Colorado 10 pm

If you have MLS Live, you will be suffering with the Spanish inflection UNIMAS dudes, who get names wrong, think everybody is wonderful and generally are unlistenable.

    Likely to be Eurosport streams.

NYCFC looking like TFC defence right now. Some hilarious GKing, now a red

Castillo just made Colorado's defence looks silly, with 2 touches.

Castillo can make any MLS defence look like TFC pylons

Funny how people are not saying NYCFC have to win otherwise Silva is going to get homesick.

(I find watching the rest of the league a natural dampener on TFC related panic)

I was hoping Chicago and NYCFC would have ended in a tie as that wold have been the best scenario for TFC, but seeing how NYCFC was pure clown shoes last night I guess that might have been too much to ask. Hopefully Columbus-Philly also ends in a tie, but if not then I'll root for a Philly win as they would be easier to catch than Columbus at this point. It would also be nice if RSL, Vancoucer and LA could do TFC a solid and win their games.

RSL and Philly both losing 3-0 right now. Guess no one wants to give us a break.

Another shocking officiating mess in the Houston/KC game. Penalty and red card given against Jermaine Taylor of Houston for a phantom handball. Official had a clear view of it as well and how he got it wrong beggars belief. MLS really needs to sort out the officiating if it wants to be taken seriously as a global competition

Good game this, Houston 4-3 up with seven minutes left

Gantar has sent off Laba. Second yellow looked deserved, first very speculative.

    Whitecaps just got Gantar'd!

Laba with a 2nd "yellow", which was just barely a clipping of the toes. Wow.

Gantar, Gantar. What you gonna do? What you gonna do when he comes for you?

    Second yellow looked legit.

I take it the first one was for his beard?

Gantar denies the Whitecaps what looked a good shout for a penalty. The guy tries so hard to prove he's not biased, he ends up being just that the opposite way

I just saw the Houston/KC highlights, wow that penalty + red card was shockingly bad.

Is it just me, or does the officiating this season look even worse than in past years?

I wonder if it's because the level of play in MLS is improving every year but the officiating is not.. so it's starting to get more noticeable as a comparison.

    ^ Good point.

Nice to know Paul Shortpants is as much of an ijit as ever. Doing an announcement for the NE - RSL game, on NE's 3rd goal, he mentions that RSL were appealing for an offside call, but "there's no way that he was offside." Yet the goal should have been called offside, and Mariner should have seen enough in the replay being shown right then to at least keep quiet, and realize it was close.

Not that it mattered in the final 4-1 scoreline, but it's just bush league when officials and announcers are so dense.

BTW, one thing to consider as many TFC supporters lose their shit about our poor defence. I just watched all of this week's highlights, and there's lots of very bad defending to be seen, by teams higher & lower in the standings.

To be fair, Mariner is one of the few colour dudes who does call out his own team for mistakes and bad calls as bad calls.

There are no teams lower in the standings playing this weekend.

But yes, lots of bad defending. Probably due to salary structure. Teams pay bigger $$$ for attacking players and the quality of those players is improving by the year but the defence never caught up. Teams are trying to save money by using scrubs at the back. That's the problem with our cap system.

Portland letting Martens waltz into the box playing zonal on a cross.....that's not going to end well if they keep that up.

Some very enjoyable football this weekend, especially our win, and the goalfest on Saturday. As a self confessed Euro snob its took me a while to get into MLS, but i'm hooked now and will happily watch back to back games from Friday to Sunday.

    Well said GW.

Just saw the NE highlights and can't believe the clinic they put on for visiting Salt Lake. RSL looked like keystone cops in the back.
