But Vanney shouldn't have started Caldwell, he should have started Haglund

Bradley's role as a stay-at-home mid makes no sense. He has to play box-to-box with a dedicated destroyer behind him. He can drop back and pivot as needed but he needs to primarily follow the play.

We don't need to pay someone the money we are paying him now to do this role. It's a waste.

The problem starts with providing cover in front of the CBs as much as Caldwell looks like nothing special. How many times has Giovinco been 1v1 vs their CBs? zero. How many times has Manneh been spring in the same situation? 3-4 time in the first half alone.

LOL....we are winning possession and ahead of them in passing accuracy all over the pitch.

That was the fastest paced half I have ever witnessed in MLS, ever. Hope we can slow it down, and play possession in the second half. That's how we can win.

Nobody in this league can out run Manneh, but Haglund would have a better go of it than Caldwell.

Perquis an absolute beast so far. Caldwell shouldn't play in any games where the other team has anyone faster than a turtle. Cheyrou has crazy skill but shouldn't be playing around in our half. Bradley needs to stay back more. Giovinco is the real deal. Forgot that Findley is playing.

We're getting murdered on the counter.

Took us about 25 minutes to settle, but I really liked the combination play up top when we were able to get comfortable on the ball, and this is just the first game. I think we're good in terms of scoring. Lots to address defensively (moreso team shape and roles than personnel).

You're right, it's not Caldwell being exposed, it's tons of space being given up behind Creavalle. If one of the midfielders were staying back and anchoring that probably wouldn't happen.

well, Oduro might, esp with some pizza on the line.
but Manneh has the ability to dribble (same with Fabian Castillo) to break some ankles on 1v1 situation. that's scary

One thing I like about this league.

In Europe, if a talent like Maneh came up with a non-top team, he'd be transferred to a top team within a season.

He stays with Vancouver and they get better. Makes this league far more fun to watch.

That's Bradley's game though. He needs someone else to say back as the #6 so he can go forward. I thought that's what Cheyrou was brought in for, but he's playing further forward than Bradley.

This game is more or less in a holding pattern until the subs hit.

I'd like Moore or even Chapman on for Findley. He's done a lot more nothing than anyone else on the field

Agreed with everyone on Bradley being a waste in the holding role. Obvious problem is we have too much talent in certain positions and we're trying to fit everyone on the field...

It takes a special kind of team to be able to attack all game without a proper DM sitting in front of a back 4 - this applies from beer league all the way up to Premier League. With Osario, Bradley and Gio we have 3 centralized attacking options trying to puzzle together. When we click we look good, but when we give up the ball in the middle our back line is hopelessly exposed.

Methinks finding the right balance to bandaid this will be our make/break this season. I love Caldwell's leadership but in games with fast offenses he's just too outmatched.

it feels like a 4-4-2 diamond with Bradley as base of diamond, but playing a double pivot with Cheyrou. it's just not working well

Yeah, looks like they might have blown their wad in the first half ... hopefully we can exploit it more now.
