Last mayor went for a casino downtown and lost, badly. In the backblow, the Woodbine Casino got swept out. Its likely coming back but only because other councillors think its a good idea and the taint of the last mayor isn't on it anymore. Not that the current local councillor is working all that hard on getting it going.

Were people wearing black shirts actually accepting free beer from Leiweke last Saturday?

A few years ago I had a tour of Woodbine and they had a scale model of the huge mall, hotel and auditorium they planned to build. Apparently it was by the same company that built the Baltimore Inner Harbor and a big development in a midwest city (maybe St. Louis?). Was that all tied to getting the casino?

at one point it was a radiocity musical hall, then casino, then transit a stop from downtown, etc.. etc...

Rob For was a bone head, but he had one thing right and thats that the suburbs of Toronto are/were severly neglected.

PS, where do I vote for a better science centre. Ours pales in comparison to of the ones out there

Yes, and not having a downturn like 2008. Woodbine Live died then more then anything.

We are going way off topic here. I wish him and his family well out of all that. But, he's been missing in action on Woodbine since before he was mayor. Its amazing what happens when a pol wants something to happen - see BMO and Miller or Joe Pants and BMO not having a WWC match.

Tim Hudak bought me a beer once on the campaign trail. I didn't vote for him. What's your point?

In 113 Yup. The swarmed in like ants to sugar.

A Couple people guys in 112 grabbed a beer, but it looked like the execs swooped in and told the beer guy to back off and they took the beer over to 113.
The two guys who took the beer then put it down on the capo stand and walked away.

It looked bad on those sections that went running like they had never had beer before.

First you are protesting against the team, then Tim L brings beer over and makes everyone happy again. It was a running joke the whole second half.
How do you buy stop a supporter from protesting against your corporation? - buy him beer.

On the tour I was on they were talking a lot about how it would all be "almost all" private sector money. I didn't get the feeling many people on the tour believed that. Hey, maybe if they'd included a stadium for the Argos...

He should have handed them out in last year's "Defoe collector's cups"...now THAT would have been great. Free beer, just another slimy sales tactic.

The thing they were carrying them in kind of tipped, now my backpack smells like beer.

I was a bit miffed about that. The MLSE guys were very apologetic about it all afterwards.

You can't have a beer with those you disagree with?

There's a scene painted on here of U-sector climbing over each other for freebies while the steadfast RPB members solemnly protest. I wasn't there, but this portrait feels a bit circlejerky ala 2008.

    What really happened?

Some people may have taken beer the ones I know did not. Lots of random people in front of me in 113 these days, whether they are scalped tix or people migrating in, I don't know. What started the publicized row between Lieweke and the one supporter was Tim's bravado talk and the free beer. He was told to stuff his beer up his ass when he offered it and lots of people that I know from U-Sector said the same thing (but with more expressive language). There were a lot of people flooding down the isle between 113 & 114 for beer, I had no idea there even was beer, but a lot of those people were coming from above my row and from the top of 114.

I was wearing a black shirt, I had zero interest in talking to Lieweke at all, he was right beside me at one point, but if some vendor passed me a beer and said it was free I'd drink it. I'm not kissing Lieweke's ass by doing it either and I sure wouldn't be shaking his hand and taking selfies with him like a whole bunch of folks in 114 did when he was there but if I get offered free beer in a place that I've dropped a lot of cash on beer in for years, then I'm taking it.

    Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
It just seems like MLSE in general feels that they can make all their wrongs go away by giving out free beer, discount tickets to matches nobody gives a shit about, etc, etc, etc
As for U-Sector, RPB, Kings (of which I'm a member), Inebriatti, 109...I am the last person who would disrespect ANY of them. We all support the same thing...wish some people would frickin' get that!!!

I remember when he was rumored years ago and I went into full on rant mode. And that was 5 or more years ago. The fact that he still plays is mind boggling. Even more mind boggling is that teams still want him.

First - Call it what you want, most people saw it as a protest.

Black shirts, no singing and banners with the same, non-football oriented messaging all done in the name of making a statement to the management, mean and the others in the stadium - sounds like a protest to me.

I don't understand why you are against calling it a protest. Is it more hipster cool to call it a "wake"?

Second - I stand corrected - it was against the management.

No but it's what it was intended to be by those who came up with the idea. A protest, historically for us TFC supporters, is usually doing something to demand change. Since everyone knew nothing would change then nothing was asked for. This was to show the management what they could be looking at weekly if they don't keep their promise and it also worked out to be catch some buzz in the media and on the internet. Raising the awareness on the issue and getting it seen by people in regular media was a good move and it worked. I had customers at my work asking me about this for most of the last week. These aren't TFC people either. Call it hipster or whatever you want but it worked and it didn't come off as our usual whiny, bitchy 'protests' that have fallen flat in the past.

I agree with everything here that you are saying.
It's not worth arguing over what to call it.

Some people from some groups took beer. Most RPB did not and I appreciate that.

The rest just highlights that different groups do different things and that's why we're different groups.

This doesn't have to get to be gossipy. The fact the groups did anything together on the weekend should be focused on and counted as a success.

How much did Larry T and Bell pay to buy Argos? (Notice no one mention how much they were bought for?)

Would you consider folding Argos if they don't workout at BMO field?

How are you going to attract key demo (male 18-35 group) in this market since we got a lot of options unlike rest of Canadian cities where CFL is main show in summer time

Me too but within the context that is Toronto, how do we not have 2 separate stadiums?
