If you are going to do this, this is the way to do it.

Maybe things would have worked out differently if Defoew had been there for camp on day one last year.

Sebastian Giovinco's MLS career will begin faster than expected. TSN's Gareth Wheeler confirms reports in Italy that the Italian international will begin the season with Toronto FC, rather than in July as previously expected after coming to an agreement with Juventus to end his contract early.

According to Wheeler we are going to be paying a transfer fee to get him now. Wonder how much.

I agree, having him here right out of the gate for the pre-season is good to see, gives everything to a chance to start on a good foot.

I imagine the transfer fee is nominal. Likely a token of good faith more than anything else.

All of the reports out of Italy is that Juventus and Giovinco have decided to terminate his contract by mutual conscent. IMO the money they are discussing is Giovinco's salary as it's going to start now versus July, so MLSE had to approve the additional cost.

Plus Bradley and Simonin speak fluent Italian, Altidore speaks fluent Spanish (p. close, let's be honest, for when it comes to being understood.) He looked to me like he was reading off a cue card.

Savona (team in Italy's 3rd division) signs Giuseppe Giovinco, Sebastian's brother. So looks like he will not be joining his brother in Toronto.

I don't think TFC will be paying anything to Juventus.

^ Agreed. Probably have to discuss a bump in the signing bonus for negotiation of the early exit from Juventus and MLS has to OK the financials

You think a team is going to forgo money they are entitled to?

they will at the very least be saving on the salary that would have been paid to Giovinco if he had stayed till july...

It's pretty common on Bosman's to do this - given Giovinco's pretty decent attitude and history with Juventus only helps this to likely occur... but you never know - the fee would be so miniscule because the pre-contract is already signed that it would be a afterthought even if it was come to pass

They are saving money they would have paid for the player's salary while he rode the pine and prepared to leave at the end of the season anyway. If he were a regular starter for them, it would probably be a different story.

Juve may be glad to stop paying someone who isn't playing. But we paid $6M to release Defoe early. So anything is possible.

Giovinco has been a great pro for Juventus. If he prefers to leave now then I'm sure they will let him go instead of haggle over a small sum of money that they would already be saving by not paying his remaining wages.

Also to be honest, he doesn't really fit in their current setup and is taking the place of someone who might fit better.

Juve's coach Allegri stated after their match today that Giovinco is leaving the team by mutual consent. So he is more than likely going to meet up with the team in Florida.
