Nah, it's done. He just has to sign, which will happen tomorrow.

Sunderland fans saying the 80K per week for defoe is massively dependent on bonus targets and he's actually on 50K per week.

yeah from my understanding anyone ahead of us can claim him under allocation but would have to pay us for the transfer which is huge and prob not in the interest of the teams

Given that he is being unveiled at the ACC in the morning, we should have heard about the deal for the allocation spot already.

LA have made their allocation ranking play to get Kljestan by trading for Colorado's spot.

    This is from last night...
.@RescindedRed Not necessarily. Montreal could've (& likely) passed if they had no interest/couldn't afford Jozy & wanted to keep top spot.

We don't have to make a deal on allocation. The teams ahead of us have to claim him to do that; they can't do that unless they meet terms MLS has already reached with Altidore. Ergo, we get him. Apparently, the Shite Bulls were willing to immediately trade for him and Bez asked for $7.5M.

How many times has TFC traded the first spot in the allocation order, 3 at least. I can remember McBride/Chicago, Boccanegra/Chivas and Marcus/Sesttle. Wonder when they let you do such a thing vs. Just passing?

None of those guys were coming in as DPs, so the individual teams didn't have to meet a transfer fee, would be my guess.

They traded last year so Beasley could sign with Houston.

The allocation thing is a running joke. Why must this league stroke the ego of its weakest and most useless franchises?

In the end, most of these returning players have the negoatiating power to play for whoever they want. The league readily backtracks or breaks its own rule all the time.

I find the Uk term "unsettled" to be amusing.
Surely as a player you would have done some research regarding the soccer team, league and environment to where you were going.

Like everyone else, I find that Daily Mail story ridiculous. Defoe knew TFC was what it was, a minor league team in a minor league, he is not an idiot.

He took this gig thinking it would give him security (he got that part right!) and solidify his WC place (he got that part wrong, since he never asked Hodgson about that!), and pretty quickly it became obvious that the move hurt him with Hodgson rather than helped him. Which clearly got him in a funk, which he never recovered from.

He didn't give a crap about anything else, including his teammates, which means they didn't give a crap about him, which just accelerated the death spiral.

Jozy had 0.2% ownership in EPL fantasy. For the record.

Well getting clean sheets in the EPL isn't easy, however you do it. But I think the phrase "adpoting the fetal position from the first whistle" was used to describe their last match. At any rate, I have Pants as my fantasy keeper and he's kicking ass.

Defoe probably didn't consider the other players on the squad to be peers. But several players have commented that Defoe was not a problem in the dressing room, if there were issues, that would have gotten out.

All his chips were on making the WC squad. It didn't happen, that made everything else not make sense any more. I do wonder if he had made the squad, come August if he would have ended up feeling the exact same way. I'm leaning toward this was going to happen either way.

Let's face it, he wouldn't have been the first to have been sold a bill of goods on this club.

Certainly true. For all the criticisms of Defoe, let's point out the TL is too good at selling, not got enough at thinking if it was the right deal.

Press release on MLS now... Supposedly everyone else in the allocation order passed i.e. were told where to go when they expressed interest.

lol pretty much. Suppose we can let go of previous instances when the Garber told us to shove it and had his way.

Sunderland is at West Ham on March 15.
Who else would love to see Doneil Henry get in the match and own Defoe?

I'm happy we got Jozy for Defoe. While Jozy remains unproven, I'm ultimately just glad that we got rid of Defoe and got something in return.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jozy play. If we doesn't play well, we'll have Gilberto, Finley, and Dike to cover the striker position. So no real problem there, with the exception of him taking up a DP spot. That might bite us in the ass.
