Here's some classic entertainment.
Given that he is being unveiled at the ACC in the morning, we should have heard about the deal for the allocation spot already.
LA have made their allocation ranking play to get Kljestan by trading for Colorado's spot.
This is from last night...
.@RescindedRed Not necessarily. Montreal could've (& likely) passed if they had no interest/couldn't afford Jozy & wanted to keep top spot.
We don't have to make a deal on allocation. The teams ahead of us have to claim him to do that; they can't do that unless they meet terms MLS has already reached with Altidore. Ergo, we get him. Apparently, the Shite Bulls were willing to immediately trade for him and Bez asked for $7.5M.
Remember The Man, The Legend, The Goal 5-12-07 and All That #9 Left On The Pitch, Thanks For The Memories !!!
Press conference at 11am tomorrow.
wonder if TL will be ther tomorrow...
The allocation thing is a running joke. Why must this league stroke the ego of its weakest and most useless franchises?
In the end, most of these returning players have the negoatiating power to play for whoever they want. The league readily backtracks or breaks its own rule all the time.
Can we edit this thread title to remove the "and cash"
Like everyone else, I find that Daily Mail story ridiculous. Defoe knew TFC was what it was, a minor league team in a minor league, he is not an idiot.
He took this gig thinking it would give him security (he got that part right!) and solidify his WC place (he got that part wrong, since he never asked Hodgson about that!), and pretty quickly it became obvious that the move hurt him with Hodgson rather than helped him. Which clearly got him in a funk, which he never recovered from.
He didn't give a crap about anything else, including his teammates, which means they didn't give a crap about him, which just accelerated the death spiral.
"There are some people who might have better technique than me, and some may be fitter than me, but the main thing is tactics. With most players, tactics are missing. You can divide tactics into insight, trust, and daring." - Johan Cruyff
Jozy had 0.2% ownership in EPL fantasy. For the record.
Defoe probably didn't consider the other players on the squad to be peers. But several players have commented that Defoe was not a problem in the dressing room, if there were issues, that would have gotten out.
All his chips were on making the WC squad. It didn't happen, that made everything else not make sense any more. I do wonder if he had made the squad, come August if he would have ended up feeling the exact same way. I'm leaning toward this was going to happen either way.
Press release on MLS now... Supposedly everyone else in the allocation order passed i.e. were told where to go when they expressed interest.
Sunderland is at West Ham on March 15.
Who else would love to see Doneil Henry get in the match and own Defoe?

5 years, 30M for Altidore
I'm happy we got Jozy for Defoe. While Jozy remains unproven, I'm ultimately just glad that we got rid of Defoe and got something in return.
I'm looking forward to seeing Jozy play. If we doesn't play well, we'll have Gilberto, Finley, and Dike to cover the striker position. So no real problem there, with the exception of him taking up a DP spot. That might bite us in the ass.
