Larson saying Altidore is due to arrive at Pearson today at 2:45. Anyone strapping on the blades?

Jozy will have a quiet day with the brain trust in Philly for the draft.

I haven't given that douche the time of day for a few years, and now I remember now why. I love how he states that Canada gets the returning USMNT players "every f**king time", then in the next sentence refers to Dempsey, who is a pretty glaring exception.

Consideration to going crossed my mind for sure, but after evaluating the weather mucking around Philly in this cold just was not attractive even with an all supporters booze fest this morning. Bars start serving at 6 am in the fine state of PA.

Geez, it went from 11 million to Altidore + nothing pretty quickly didn't it?
Which begs the question would you have traded Defoe for Altidore straight up?

Likely though, as posted above, the truth is in the middle somewhere.

TFC have to been seen as getting maximum return and Sunderland have to been seen as not overpaying.

$100 says there was no cash, it was a CHECK, so Sunderland isn't lying, there was no cash involved in the deal.

People might think you're kidding, but this kind of "truth" is used in interviews with media all the time. Good reporters followup with "I didn't ask you if cash changed hands, I asked you if Toronto received any compensation over and above the player swapped."

    But these days...

I like playing with a traditional CF/Targetman, Jozy can be that. I would like to see Gilberto play along him, or behind him as the 10 to Jozy's 9.

I think it would be a good combo in this league, and I think it would give the team fulcrum for the attack.

I still think that at times we never looked better then with Dichio, because he gave that point of reference in attack that Jozy could be.

Hopefully Bradely could be the same for when we do not have the ball.

Don't overly agree. If Defoe doesn't want to play here then he is worthless to us. We either force him to stay (and play poorly as a result), keep him and never play him (in which case he is worthless anyway) or try and get anything in place of him. If Altidore, on the other hand, wants to play here, then we still come out positive.

By all accounts, Altidore prefers the ball in to his feet. He's a good hold up man, but not a target for crosses. That style can work really well with Gilberto running into channels.

But, that isn't true. He still had a trade value to other teams, so he wasn't worthless at all. Up to 10 were interested and even you don't buy that, 3 said on the record that they were.

Altidore for Defoe straight up? There is no planet I'm aware of in which that is a good deal. Players want out all the time. Doesn't mean you hold out for nothing for them.

Defoe could be worth a lot more then 11 million if he keeps Sunderland in the BPL. Altidore is a no brainer for us with his current age and being a north American striker. I would have preferred Cubo Torres, but Altidore's physical dominance will allow him to succeed in this league. Similar striker to Gilberto so it's not a match made in heaven but if we get Giovinco then oh... my.... god... look out. If we add 1 playmaking winger and 1 CB I call this offseason a success. GIO is just exceeding expectations and putting us on a LA Galaxy level platform. The Galaxy of the east they would call us.
