I could definitely see us picking up Ben Polk. He's projected to go mid first round and Bez seems to be familiar with the Syracuse program after picking up Thomas and Bono last year. Also the club seems to be in no rush to promote Babouli or Hamilton to the first team, so we could be in the market for a young striker for the first team.

Isn't it the Vegas thing where we saw Simonin?

IRRC, he was invited by the Sounders as he had played on their U23 team. Sounders were expecting him to be around in the later rounds and then TFC did a "Who the heck is that?!?!" move and took him early.

I still love the story that Simonin found out while he was out mowing the lawn at his new job while making money towards his MBA.

That's what I'm remembering too. Interesting that they're inviting us back considering we basically stole Simonin from under their noses.

One thing I've learned from following the draft over the years is that the MLS analysts' predictions are usually way off except for the #1 pick when there's a consensus #1 pick. I'm sure Doyle's prediction of us taking him is due to our history of taking Toronto natives and the fact that he's intl for the American teams. Mind you, if he does fall to us I could easily see us taking him, but I take the analysts' predictions with a large dose of salt.

I think the media at the time considered him stolen because nobody could figure out why TFC knew he even existed, let alone thought he was worth a first round pick.

off memory it also had to due with the fact that Seattle told us they were taking him in the later rounds before the draft. possibly stupid of them to tell us but I assume there would have been some understanding not to go after the other guys' sleeper picks.

Maybe there was no love lost at all. what do i know.

Doyle said on MLSsoccer.com that there have been several of these secret combines this year, at least two involving six teams that he knows of, maybe more. He was suggesting clubs are now deliberately considering whether to vote for a player to be at the combine or not, period, based on their chances of snagging them as an unknown. It really does tell you how poorly talent is evaluated at the NCAA level -- that, and the fact that for the third year out of the last four, the favorite to be picked first is going for his athleticism, with coaches still unsure of the position he should play.

According to the thread last year, found at http://forums.redpatchboys.ca/showth...hlight=combine,

it took about 45 minutes to get from Orlando's first pick to position 9. That included a couple of timeouts.

Interesting thread to look at now.

    ******

A lot of the journo's are suggesting there will be trades. E.g. Apparently NYCFC are desperate to get Harrison and may trade up to #1 to get him. Fire are angling for however much they can get.

Whoever we get is unlikely to start for us and will be a sub, at best - more likely USL for a season.

Bez tends to draft based on personality as much as need - the interview with Vanney already indicates that's what the braintrust wants out of a draft pick.

From an interview with Julian Buescher

    10. The possibilities of MLS got real for him last year.

“I saw two guys leave from my college team to Toronto FC – Alex Bono and Skylar Thomas. So I was like, ‘Okay, if they can do it, you can probably do it as well.’
My first MLS game was Toronto, at BMO Field, against the San Jose Earthquakes, I think. You see all those stadiums and how crazy the people are about soccer and you think, ‘Okay, that’s cool.’”

I see the superdraft as basically a tool to fill the USL sides now. Which is still a good thing, but at the same time it takes away from each team filling their youth squad with Academy players.

Colorado trade TAM money to the Galaxy for the 12th pick in the draft, first move of the day.

The Super - some of you will play in MLS, most in USL and a few of you poor bastards will end up in the NASL and get traded for a hotel room - Draft presented by Adidas.

lol i thought the same thin, Vanney has terrible fashion coordiantions, which is perhaps why he makes poor line up choices

I know the way we traded our picks in the 2nd round ended up with Seattle getting our "highest second round pick" and Vancouver getting our "second highest pick", which ended up as #27 and #29. Say we pulled off a trade today and got the #24 pick. Because of the wording of those trades, would #24 end up with Seattle, Vancouver with #27, and us with #29? Because Seattle was originally to receive our natural pick when we made that trade (Jan 2015), but it became Orlando's pick after we made the Crevalle trade (in August)
