yeah Oduro has some nice moves but lacks a touch, finishing, can't cross...too expensive

    I like the Oduro move!

We have a saying in the finance business - make your first trade your worst trade. Undoing this move is a real positive.

I see this as Findley for Oduro, which feels like good business to me.

Trying to summons some emotion about Oduro leaving, I got nothing, for or against.

Edit: Am swayed by the financial arguments, and Findley does seem like a better option.

Agreed, I like it. Oduro is nice to have off the books. Findley has been up and down through his career but more versatile than Oduro. Definite upgrade.

Gaining 300K in cap space for Oduro is a great move. Montreal must be desperate.

Probably Bez/Vanney wanted to see how fit Findley was before doing anything with Oduro, so the timing makes sense.

as far as I know, Findley only played striker during his entire career

they basically have one decent striker on books right now after Gilardino move fell through

I'm pretty much meh about this one too from a playing point of view.

Thought one of Jackson or Oduro would be traded.

Any way this move is used to pay down Gilberto? I have no clue how this league works, so someone chime in?

Based on how Bez and Vanney were talking yesterday, Gilberto is going but not finalised yet. Vanney did indicate it was an option if the CBA allowed it for a 4th DP or an allocation bring down of the salary but Bez didn't support that much at all.

I think we are getting in another wide midfielder/winger type.

If Gilberto is sold, we could have 800-900K in cap space available to solidify the lineup. That money could be spread out to sign 2-3 impact players (not from Montreal ).

He's played as a true winger (wide forward) several times. But yeah, he's not going to go back defend.

No, we don't get three times his cap hit. Cap hit is the same for DPs.

Yeah he seems to take after his uncle as far as interview skills go... So far Vanney gives the best interviews of any TFC coach we've ever had in my opinion.

I was referring to the sum of Gilberto and Oduro's salary cap hit and the total amount of allocation we would receive (if Gilberto is sold for a moderate transfer fee).

Ah. So about $600,000 plus allocation. Yeah, that's a lot of cap room at his late a stage, for sure. Might need some of it for Perquis but still... maybe another wide player and a more dominating defensive midfielder?

So Oduro salary + allocation, Bekker salary + allocation and gilberto allocation. We should have enough to bring in 1 or 2 very quality players.

    Love the moves this year.

+ Findlay - Oduro (+1) Same speed better player.
+Giovinco - Defoe (even) tough to judge though imo we come out ahead due yo positional need and age.
+ Alitdore - Gilberto (+1) altidore will score more, already had chemistry with Bradley and has a Gio behind him
+ Perquis - Henry (+1) what we lost in potential we gained in experience in an area that badly needed it.

Not to mention additional cb depth, and large influx of drafted talent (potential #1gk).

Once Gilberto is sold we have room to sign two additional players at decent wages, my expectation is a winger and DM.

Really like the depth of this team more than ever before. Great job by Bez and co, hopefully they'll see things come together this year.

Someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it works like this. Gilberto's base salary was 1.145 million. In order to buy him down to the league max of 387,500 we would have to use $757,500 worth of allocation. You could almost get 2 league max players for that amount of allocation, or 3 good quality MLS players. Just doesn't seem worth it to me.

TFC won't be using wingers. Wide forwards and wing backs provide the width. The midfield is compact and central.
