It should be interesting to see how Coyle adapts to MLS. he's certainly has one of highest pedigree as a foreign manager. But he'll be working with Matt Jordan, formerly of IMFC who exactly didn't shine at Montreal. And Houston is in a serious rebuild mode this off season.

Nothing wrong with his lack of knowledge of MLS .... if .... you have a front office that owns player acquisition/negotiation separate from the manager.

Keep him away from the cap, contracts etc, jut have him coach the players.

It's not something we've ever tried, but it works that way in lots of places.

With the way MLSE is currently structured from a reporting stand point TFC having a president over the GM is pretty much useless from my view. When TL brought TFC's business side of things into the MLSE fold, thus ending the Reds from having their own separate operation Kevin Payne was fired and Paul's departure was not too far behind as they in ways had redundant roles.

This is depressing. All the money in the world wouldn't entice me to take the TFC job, if Seattle was available.

Payne became redundant because essentially Tim L took over the role of TFC's president for himself. Whoever replaces his as MLSE president will almost certainly not give as many shits about TFC as TL did. You need a president to just be a stable figure at the top who knows what a soccer team is supposed to look like. Otherwise you get a Tom Anselmi replacing a Dutch coach with an old school English coach, and then telling you that the English coach continued to play the same style as his predecessor when it was completely obvious to everyone that watches the game that their styles were completely different in every way

From comments I've seen, TFC, Seattle and Atlanta were the ones interested in hiring Lagerwey. IMO Seattle seems like the least challenge for someone wanting to step up. At Atlanta he could have been part of the team roll out but would have only been the General Manager (Darren Eales was named team president in Sept). At TFC, well, universe's center of chaos and all that. Joe Roth must have written a very large number on a piece of paper.

IMHO, the club has been sorely missing a respected football mind, overseeing non-administrative activities, and maintaining club identity.

RBNY announced the hiring of Ali Curtis (a high level league functionary much like Bez BTW) as sporting director on 12/23, could be that they were just waiting for that appointment to drop the hammer. Still, it's a bizarre move to fire Petke. If RB was going to downsize their commitment, wouldn't that be even more reason to keep him around, to keep people from freaking out?

True. Although our lack of player moves and our management changes suggest to me we are already behind schedule

The RBNY melt down on MLS reddit is pretty epic.

Also, on Twitter, Tony Meola was asked about Petke firing, he was not surprised. So there may have been more going on behind the scenes.

Jesse Marsch is the rumored new RBNY HC. Leads me to think that Petke was fired for being a complainer.
