It totally has been a fake injury imo. at the transfer window, he was in england, for his "groin treatment" during that time harry redknapp goes off like brian burke on what he thinks he can do. TFC rejects 'THE' offer and defoe tweets back "its okay guys, I love TFC, cant wait for the next match" how many matches has he had since nelson left? sorry I must have forgot when the treatment started.. it seems to fail me. only guy I've ever heard needs to go to a specialist in another continent for 45 days for treatment on his anything. by the way we're not africa. we're LA, NY, TO, Van, Mtl, Hous, Miam, etc its a fraud guys
redknapp would have shut his mouth if defoe said he didnt want to go to QPR.
Just spit my coffee out upon reading this one http://www.torontosun.com/2014/10/23...-drama-sources . Funny how all this stuff is leaking out now after failing to make the playoffs and the final game is approaching. This seems to be a classic blame shifting exercise by management by making Defoe and his mother the story instead of the real story which is management screwed up this season. The info in this story seems to have been spoon-fed from management. Unbelievable that they can't even use propaganda properly by trying to make Defoe the scapegoat instead of themselves with such a clumsy attempt. Sadly this kind of crap will be gobbled down by some. Management screwed up this season and no one else.

I think you maybe have it right- I mean, why TFC would want to crush his transfer value by helping someone write this story, it's mindboggling?
Possible answer- because Harry Potter sees the train wreck that is coming in January (there will be no transfer fee, and TFC will have to eat salary) and is looking to say/do anything to make this look like someone else's screwup
Everybody looks terrible here. As I said in news thread:
Larsun's "story" on Defoe ... it could be true, but that is one shoddy hatchet job of unsourced innuendo, as written
More broadly, I mean who cares WHY, he acted the way he acted, he is responsible for his actions and decisions.
“What the world needs is more geniuses with humility; there are so few of us left.”
I giggled inside every time I read "well placed source" in Larsons piece.
What a freakin' soap opera
Break out the popcorn for the post season speaches.
Was saying to the wife on the way to work this morning, had TFC never signed "The Bloody Big Distraction" I honestly think they would have made the playoffs. All speculation, but, I think Gilberto would have bagged at least 15. The club would have gelled better. Hey, I could be full of shit, but all the drama definitely took it's toll.
I think we should stop looking at TFC as a sports team and more like a piece of living Shakespearean theatre (or bad reality TV).
After all, it's maple leaf sports AND Entrrtainment. Are you not entertained? I don't know of we're sported but we are most certaintly entertained.
BTW, shades of Vince Carter here and a third rate hatchet job by a hack reporter.
I am no fan of Defoe, but what is this other than a management face saving exercise?
You know, the BMO Field renovation seems like a good idea. But tell me, will anyone step anywhere near it without at least a hard hat in fear that the pieces start falling down at some point?
I'm not sure I buy the story, but it doesn't matter because the punchline is still the same, Defoe's got to go.
The timing totally reeks of distraction, but most of the points in the article check against info that I got during the season.
Knowing that its pretty much true, it doesn't change a lot of things. Its being used as a distraction tool for a miserable season. Get ready for the sunshine cannons to be shot up our asses.

If all this was true, why didn't the team just let him go??
Surely they had to know that the bad image of letting your star player leave after have a season, while still bad, isn't as bad as the disaster that was sure to follow with a disgruntled star who doesn't want to be here causing a major distraction the rest of the season!
They should have just accepted the transfer, and then came out with something along the lines of "the player didn't want to be here anymore, and we don't need that around our club. We only want people who are 100% committed to what we are trying to achieve"... would have been an infinitely better response to a tough situation for the club.
This is it right here.
Of course it's true. It's happened before with him and his Mommy and we were foolish enough to think he'd change but I am totally sure the TFC brass and their personal reporter Larsun sat on this story until they needed to smoke screen the bad campaign and the poor optics of the Henry 'deal'. Classic old school TFC is back again.
Well the one detail that is touched upon is that Tim B was not looking to move Defoe in that window. It was an insult that Defoes Mom went out and made the deal behind the teams back then put it against their heads like a loaded gun. Sure they made the money look good but a decision was made on principal. Personally I suspect that Nelsen got ropped into the move too, which hurried his way out the door.
The commitment - however flawed - was to buy their way into the playoffs by getting high priced DP players and getting some competent MLS core guys around them. I do think TFC tried really hard to make it happen but I know we would all rather a proper plan and structured team where stuff like this doesn't happen. Its incredible to think a person outside the team held it hostage. As well, its equally incredible that a single player still impacts things so much. We need a team with 11 players, not 1.

"The ridiculous thing is that that seemed to be the direction we were heading with Payne. and then Liewike comes in with all the answers and a swift axe to Payne."
Fact is, we would be no worse off with Laba and Urruti (who has scored two more goals than Gilberto this year).
Payne put the fire out got the cap under control. Imagine we had Laba playing beside Bradley & I'm very confident he would have been able to sign Bradley. He was still here during the Roma friendly where I'm positive the seed of playing for Toronto was planted in Bradley's head.
#GETUSEDTOIT.
Payne dug his own grave by hiring Nelsen. Nelsen never seemed too interested in these kinds of players (as evidenced by how quickly Urruti was sent away after Nelsen had a look at him). I often wonder if Payne even interviewed Nelsen to find out what his vision for building the team was, or if he thought that as a young inexperienced coach (a term I use lightly here), he would just do whatever he was told. That didn't happen, they had a falling out, and Lieweke took Nelsen's side.
There is a certain comfort in knowing that we are back to our sabotaging, character assassinating, back room hijinx again. Didn't seem quite right being above board for the past year or so. At least the failing was always there to comfort us but now we got the soap opera back too.
I don't like Defoe's contract. I think was a mistake. I also think that if he wants out, Air Canada offers daily flights to the UK.
All of that said, this character stuff is really over the top and unnecessary. Defoe simply wants a change. The team is better off without his contract. That's win-win.
All that is left is the egg on the face of those that made the decision to offer the contract in the first place. I guess the only thing that wipes egg of comes from the gutter?
I liked the Defoe signing, but it's clear he just couldn't adjust to the play in MLS, or couldn't handle being away from England. Still think it was an ambitious move by the FO, that just didn't work out. It happens.
I'm less enamoured with how the entire ordeal has been handled, and I'm 99% sure that the "highly placed" source for this mud-slinging Toronto Sun story, is Leiweke himself. He probably knows Defoe is gone as of January, and wants to start laying the foundation for an "it was out of my hands/all their fault" defense, when that happens. Maybe it's even all true, but it's not the right way to do business.
I'm not thrilled with how Defoe has conducted himself either (particularly disappearing to England for several weeks for a "second opinion", then coming back like nothing happened), but it doesn't excuse being just as bad, if not worse.
Time to end this relationship, I guess, and move on. Don't really think there's much more to say about it.

agreed........it takes a team to win not an overpaid individual...who stands there and waves his arms ........and maybe we could have kept Laba . of course it is not all on him but it set the tone and what was important to the the brass . Defoe is simply your English striker , not there when the chips are down and they always need service .

Some interesting stuff from Larson on twitter. Found this just now as someone was talking to Larson about Bez/Vanney and such. Seems like something happened with regards to Nelson that justified the firing that currently is not known to the public. Will apparently come out in the future. I wonder what it could be to make Larson adamant that Bez made the correct/only decision? Makes it seem separate from the record/press conference/ect. Hmmm.
Kurtis Larson @KurtLarSUN 24m24 minutes ago
@Kubani7 Had to fire him, IMO. Which will come out later.
Kurtis Larson @KurtLarSUN 19m19 minutes ago
@Kubani7 Yes, it will. But if the right decision was made, what more can someone do?
Kurtis Larson @KurtLarSUN 14m14 minutes ago
@Kubani7 No, it was. Some certain things happened that haven't come out yet. They will.
