MLS recends suspension forLuke Moore

NEW YORK — Major League Soccer’s independent review panel has taken back the fine and one-game suspension it placed on Toronto FC forward Luke Moore earlier this week.Moore was issued a red card and was ejected in the 29th minute of TFC’s 1-1 draw against the Chicago Fire on Wednesday. He collided with Fire midfielder Chris Ritter, appearing to elbow Ritter in the right temple.Ritter temporarily left the game but was back within three minutes with his head bandaged. Toronto played the final hour with 10 men.TFC submitted an appeal for review of the play, and the appeal was unanimously upheld Friday.Toronto FC hosts D.C. United on Saturday.

It's all fine and well for the MLS review panel to overturn the fine and suspension, but what about us having to play the final hour one man short? I am a big fan of the review board and I am glad that the panel is honest enough to overturn these awful decisions, but there have to be repercussions against the officials who deny teams points and mar entertaining contests through their errors or their ineptness. That was never a red card, but if the ref was adamant that it was, then he had to give the same punishment to the Chicago player who did the same thing in the second half. By failing to do that he displayed his general weakness or his total ignorance of the rules of the game. Either way, he should be suspended.

they said he didnt deserve a fine and suspension, they didn't say he didn't deserve a red card.

You don't suspend a ref, you simply just don't rehire him. If it works like hockey, all officials are rated after each game and those whose performance is consistently suspect simply don't work for the NHL. They still have Refs that make bad calls though.

As for the same punishment for the Chicago player… was the TFC player bleeding? These things happen fast and in his view, there was an elbow to the head and the injured player was on the ground bleeding.

They get it wrong in all sports. Hockey has seen players not penalized in a game only to receive suspensions after the fact under video review. Other times, they call a match penalty and no further action is required.

It isn't perfect but it is what it is. This ref got a number of things wrong, including Morrow's back pass to Bendik near the goal line. I still prefer the human element over video review for every thing that happens in a game.

In this particular case the result is what it is. (the Ref missed many calls that could have gone very bad for TFC during the game) I'm happy it is reversed.

Since MLS likes to be the guinea pig for new things (Adidas Tech Jerseys, White Spray lines etc) why not have a league official at the match that can review card calls so crap like this doesn't happen.
This is a big fuck up and it's happened to this guy 3 times already. He is costing teams valuable points.

The first 2 red cards was a simultaneous red to 1 per team in a match.

So, he's really only screwed up bad enough to have been reversed on two occasions.

Regardless, he's not very good at his job.

Unfortunately, a yellow can become a red based on the outcome to the fouled player. It's no different in hockey. The same check from behind could be anything from a 2 minute penalty to a multi game suspension. The latter almost always dependent on the severity of injury to the player. A player gets up? 2 mins. A player is cut? 5 Minute Major and a Game Misconduct. A player leaves the game and misses action? Multi-game suspension.

Well, it looks like this is already happening in the MLS. Sideline official overruled the ref and gave Hagglund a red.
