An off-duty Columbus Division of Fire lieutenant has been hospitalized after being struck by lightning at the Columbus Crew game Saturday.

Just before 8 p.m. Columbus medics were called to Crew Stadium to transport a person who had been struck by lightning to the hospital.

The victim was struck somewhere in the parking lot. Officials say the victim was in cardiac arrest at the time of transport.

UPDATE: Fire officials say the victim that was struck was an off-duty lieutenant for The Columbus Division of Fire. He was resuscitated and is listed in critical condition at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

The Columbus Crew match was postponed due to the incident.

“To all – we are sincerely sorry about tonight’s postponement, but your safety is of the utmost importance..” said Columbus Crew Owner Anthony Precourt on Twitter.
