Also can you put any DP you paid too much for and doesn't meet expectations on waivers? Could have solved some of our problems years ago!

Didn't we essentially do that when we sent both De Guzman and Hassli to Dallas? I don't remember getting anything back.

I doubt it. I think this was a special instance because we are maxed on DPs and in this case, the guy who f'ed up his loan deal would be the odd guy out.

2 separate trades. We got Weideman for JDG and a pick for Hassli.

So we get a cut off any future sales involving Gilberto. He's also apparently not eligible for being bought down with TAM for some reason (not that it matters, we wouldn't have done it anyways).

I think Bez meant not eligible in their minds I.E. too expensive for TAM or not worth it if he was.

    1. He wasn't producing
    2. Got in a scuffle with a the GK
    3. Coach that wanted him and brought him got fired and the new one didn't like him

Could be one of the above or all three but that's what we know.

    Oh dear. Poor Gil.

They are likely to fire his new coach after this season too.

Also, one of the articles I read mentions he missed a penalty. Pretty dire stuff.
Yet somehow I know that when he plays TFC he'll score... it's how it usually happens.

Thing is that Chicago is bad. Front to back, awful. Yallop is crap too. I am sure Gil will help a bit and someone has to score goals at some point for them but man, that team is dire.

I sure ain't an expert on how MLS works, what with Allocation money, Garber Bucks, Targeted Allocation money etc, etc, ... but can anyone give a short and sweet explanation why I feel we just got burned in shell game?

Maybe he'll break the trend and get himself sent off against us.
I feel like eventually every team in MLS will have a former TFC striker on their team and we'll never get a clean sheet again

Because we paid so much for Gilberto that we expected something back. We were fed this line about being a stepping stone for big sales to Europe and Tim Bez was going to make it rain in allocation money. Unfortunately we bought a guy that goes on thousand minute scoreless streaks so we never got to set in motion the second part of our master plan.

Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on. That said, I still think he's a fine player and wish him good luck.

    How did we get burned?

We bought a player and needed to jettison him after we bought a much better player - we sent him on loan and received a loan fee. The player sucked thereby reducing his value to zero, we put him on waivers. If he increases his value we would get a portion of future sales. Happens with players at a lot of clubs.

I don't think you need finacial issues to get rid of a striker who doesn't produce.

Small thing I noticed was that Bez said the league put him on waivers because he didn't qualify for TAM. Not that it makes much difference but if I am reading between the lines right it looks like the league got him back after the loan and wanted to do Chicago a solid and give them a somewhat legit DP (in comparison to the shite ones they picked on their own).

Well, if Chicago is paying all of his salary ... I congratulate Bez.

I don't see how this player can be worth $1.2M a year for 4 years to any team on god's green earth. That is real money in the soccer world folks, that amount is something like the average salary in La Liga.
