Fredy Montero's loan to Sporting Lisbon becomes permanent on what sounds like a 4 1/2 year deal for 'an undisclosed fee'. Good for him - he's been lighting up the Portuguese league this year.

i wonder how much
sporting doesnt usually buy players that late in their career for too much money, unless they see huge potential.
remember, sporting is one of the greatest finders and developers of talent. (ronaldo, figo and many more)
This bodes well for MLS, young players will come here as a spring board. And as the cap goes up, they stay longer and longer

good article on why Montero to MLS move was good for Montero's career.

You're right; there are huge benefits for us and the league (perception) if players see this as a viable springboard to get noticed.
My thinking, however, is that, if we were to loan and, subsequently, lose Laba, it will have come after only seeing him in TFC red for maybe a third of one season; would be nice for us to enjoy his services that bit longer, which, if things go to plan, will only ramp up any potential fee for his future transfer -- win - win.
Laba - Bradley: best midfield pairing in the league, hands down -- and it's not close. Ein Mann könnte träumen.
This is already happening. Decent pay, cheques that won't bounce, good quality of life and acceptable standard of league is making MLS more attractive destination. Few more stories like Montero, using MLS as developing league to Europe, and MLS will get more young talented CA/SA players.
