Done deal as per Jornal Record out of Portugal. 5 year deal with a €45 million buyout clause.

This may leave SKC a bit thin until the summer transfer window but given the WC break, they can probably deal with it. Great bit of business, quite significant.

NYCFC giving away its draft picks already for players who won't start for 10 months?!?!?!
I am so lost by this trade...why is an expansion team that isnt in the league yet allowed to make trades?

Liam Ridgewell to Portland as a DP
He ain't that good.
When is CBA taking place?
this is a very odd DP investment
in March (I think, last one was signed in March of 2010 and was 5 years which I think means it expires this offseason.) The only thing I can think off is that the Owners have already decided to open the pocket books and make significant changes. Either that or Paulsons been eating a lot of the new brownie flavours in Seattle.
I understand why he is a DP.
But it is a defensive player. Just seems like an odd usage for that slot.
Portland really much feel their back line is suffering in a nearly unfixable way if they are going to sign a DP defender, without some expectation that something is changing soon.
I've seen alot of Ridgewell and he is definitely not worth a DP slot. In comparison i'd say he's slightly better than Morrow. Funny thing is that still makes him probably the best lb in the MLS as of right now.

As an Aston Villa supporter, I can confirm what LFC8 says and unless you have 5 or 6 DP slots, Ridgewell is most definitely not a DP. He's a decent defender who served us well until we loaned him to Bournemouth (!) and then sold him to Birmingham. But he was never more than decent. At age 30, you can't even justify his DP status based on age. He has never played at full international level either. Considering that TFC wasn't allowed to sign Olof Mellberg who was a far superior defender and played for Sweden more than 100 times, it's puzzling why MLS would authorise this.
