I believe if you pick them up in the 1st round it is last years rate + 5% and i think you can negotiate if you pick up in the 2nd round.

I would look at Attakora in the 1st round, would provide some good depth for us.

Toronto FC has declined options on midfielders Bobby Convey, Darel Russell, Michael Thomas and forward Robert Earnshaw.
The three players that are now out of contract are forwards Danny Koevermans and Justin Braun along with goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

So where is Frei, Earnshaw, Koevs, Russel and Thomas on that list?

many of them aren't eligible due to a combination of their age and lack of time.

    1) Earnshaw and Danny are over 3, and have less than 8 years in the league. so basically, they are free agents.

+5% in the first round is only for major MLS vets. Players taken in the 2nd round can sign whatever deal teams negotiate with them. As per the rules (every player available meets at least one of these criteria):

Available to all teams in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry draft will be:
Players who are at least 23 years old and have a minimum of three years experience in MLS whose options were not exercised by their clubs (available at option salary for 2014).

Players who are at least 25 years old with a minimum of four years of MLS experience who are out of contract and whose club does not wish to re-sign them at their previous salary (available for at least their 2013 salary).

Players who are at least 30 years old with a minimum of eight years of MLS experience who are out of contract and whose club does not wish to re-sign them (available for at least 105% of their 2013 salary).

Players who are not selected in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Draft will be made available in Stage 2. Clubs selecting players in Stage 2 will negotiate a new salary with the player.

Players who remain unselected after Stage 2 will be available to any MLS club on a first come, first serve basis.
Attakora's option was declined, and he doesn't meet the age or experience requirements for the third category, so he's available in the first round at whatever his option salary number is for 2014. You have to imagine it's either very close or the same as his 2013 salary, so we can assume a 66k cap hit if we pick him up in the first round. He's just about the only name on that list I think we'd have any interest at all in taking in the first round.

not free agents. a team would have to pay compensation to TFC if they want to sign Earnshaw.

I'd pass. Espindola needs starter mins to produce 9-10 goals he gets, and he won't get that in Toronto. Also one of most inconsistent strikers ever. Belongs in Chad Barrett category in terms of causing frustration among supporters.

The numbers listed is their wage this season. If a player is in the re-entry draft after having their option year declined, it's likely because the previous team thought the option year salary is not worth the production from the player. So in Espindola's case, 150k looks pretty decent, but his option year is likely higher.

Also, a number of players are currently renegotiating, so look for numbers to drop before the 1st stage begins.

    Don't forget Attakora.

(Although I actually do think we should pick up Attakora!)

I find I'm drawn to Mark Burch, Chris Albright, David Horst, and Brandon Barklage, for defensive depth. Boswell, Pearce and Franklin would be great second round additions to the back line. Mauro Rosales would be perfect at $200K for Midfield and Dero would be good for depth. Lindpere or Pause might be adequate Plan Bs. None of the forwards particularly catch my eye.

glad that you're not the GM lol

example, Chris Albright hasn't played in like 3 years

There's enough players in this draft to have made an all-star team 2-3 years ago.
Some of these contracts though... Ferreira... Lol Mariner kind of stuff.

My prediction: pick up Nana in first round, then in second round, try to sign DeRo for cheap.

Now, I do feel like we need an upgrade over Morgan and that the bench would need some work bc the only players I see there that are useful are Oso, Dike and Boss, but this is easily one of the best starting 11 in the East, and could contend for the Cup if everyone was firing on all cylinders.
I'd pass on Franklin. He's got a lot of pace, but his offensive talents are quite meagre. Playing on LA under Arena's system made him look better than he is. I don't think he'd be as good in an another team from individual POV.

    CHI Lindpere Joel M $ 180,000.00 $ 205,000.00
    COL Smith Jamie M $ 46,500.00 $ 46,500.00

    VAN Heinemann Tommy F $ 51,975.00 $ 51,975.00

Wouldn't mind picking up any of these guys at these prices. There are a few others there (Pause, Alston, Franklin among others) that are worth signing but not at these prices. I can't believe Colorado is negotiating down Jamie Smith's deal and trying to keep him; he's a talented winger and 46G ain't much. I know he's injured a lot, but he's also talented, a lot.

Jamie Smith is turning 33, plus int spot.
Colin Clark haven't done dick all in LA, and no better than any TFC mid IMO.
Laurent Courtois had a bit of resurgence in career with LA, but he's 35, plus int spot.
Tommy Heinemann is worth a look for 5th striker/target man option, but don't expect much from him.

Heinemann is the same as Devon Sandoval or Lenhart, a banger. Decent fourth striker who will do better the more he plays. Probably not here, but at that price, not much risk.
Courtois I believe has his green card, so he's not an international. He has always been a good player and still has wheels for another year, plus he's cheap. He looked good at both LA and Chivas.
Clark was a starting MLS winger for four years; you don't lose that overnight. He's just odd man out in LA, plus he's the 'gay slur" guy and is on the same team as Robbie Rogers. Bad for PR if nothing else.
I'll agree on Smith, at 33, but again, its 46G to get a roleplayer.EDIT: Didn't realize he was an international still; forget that.

Oh don't get me wrong. I love the Caveman. He'll have a job at least NASL level, though he should get picked up by someone.
I stand corrected on Courtois; he does have a green card. But he's a natural winger now playing more centrally, and I suppose you can do worse for min wage.
Colin Clark never stood out to me, and he lost his job to Gardes and Villareal, 2 kids who will be very good MLS players in few years. So he might still be serviceable, but I have my doubts.

Is Rosales on more money next year? $225k seems almost reasonable. Based on the numbers I'm seeing thrown around, that's like 1.5 DeRo's.

bless the lad, but he'll be 38 in Feb. he didn't play any games for Chivas USA this season, but just collected a paycheck.
