Can't believe that shit still happens. I still get annoyed with media folks for calling them "Toronto FC" during games and soccer news. I mean why do that? It's ok to just say "Toronto". We know which Toronto team you're talking about because we are watching soccer! It makes sense if they're talking about them during a Raptors game.

And while I'm ranting... what are the odds of Craig Forrest being able to get through one broadcast without using the words "absolutely" or "brilliant"? Slim, at best, I'd say.

yeah fair enough.....maybe a bit overkill on the subject.....but its obvious in hearing him that having Drake call was a huge deal to Defoe.....makes you wonder how MLSE could use that asset in the future.....

i caught that Rod Black interview during the raptors game and yes it was pretty cringe worthy. What the hell is up with Rod Black anyways? Nevermid expert, but is he well versed in any sport or team to actually cover it properly? I just don't know what makes him good at his job.

Rod Black is TSN's benchwarmer. He's the guy they call in, to fill-in for pretty much any sport, if they need someone.

He has done commentary for baseball, basketball, curling, football, the Olympics, and I even saw him do a dog show at least once. Of course, this also means he doesn't really know shit about any particular sport.

I think his willingness to do pretty much anything, is the only reason he's still around.

Probably better than getting through one broadcast without Gerry Dobson saying "At any rate ...."

I spoke to Tim Lewieke just after and said it was like "First Season" excitement. He appologised profusley for the last few seasons and said he was sorry he couldnt make up for it sooner.....Then I met Ryan Nelson and then bumped into Dero.
    Awesome time.

He was working as a janitor when they hired him for his looks. I'm not kidding.

And I'll always remember him working the negative questions as hard as he could until he made poor little Josee Chouinard cry at the Olympics. Utter douchebag.

Rod Black is the reason why I don't take TSN seriously when comes to non-winter sports like soccer and basketball.

I don't even take him seriously for winter sports. Well, no. Figure skating. He's great at that.

Anyone else see the full -length "spit take" TFC ad yet on TSN? Pretty good by MLS standards.

Also saw it on City TV this evening. This week has become something quite surreal, from my standpoint unlike anything this city has experienced from a Sports standpoint. I guess in many ways the aspects of the Dafoe and Bradley signings are truly unique to soccer/footy

I PVRed the event on SportsNet Monday morning and watched it last night. They started with the ad.
O, Maple Leaf around the world, You speak as you rise high above,
Of courage, peace and quiet strength, Of the Canada that I love.
Remind us all, our union bound by ties we cannot sever,

    Quick question:
Is it concievable that Jermaine Defoe is the best player in the MLS when you look at pedigree, age, past achievements, etc?

it's interesting. i have gone over some of the big name players in the league right now and honestly i think one can make a good argument that on paper Defoe (and ya Bradley too) should be the best player in the league.

Maybe Keane, but I definitely wouldn't consider Henry or Marquez the best players in the league - possible they might have been up there at one point, but certainly not any more.
