So, arrives tomorrow, sings Wednesday, lots of pictures Thursday and Friday the announcement.
Sounds like our previously announced DP's itinerary.
Well, judging by the media reports yesterday and today, the one thing we do know is that he hasn't signed anything yet.
"Jermian Defoe's transfer to toronto FC not done, but close" per the sportsnet app
Is someone going to wait at the airport and cloak the mountie jacket
over his shoulders when he's checking out at customs?
Was there an article linked to that or does the Sportsnet App just spurt out one-liners?
Edit: Never mind found it here http://soccer.si.com/2014/01/07/jerm...-mls-transfer/

PT Barnum is unbelievable.
What the world needs is more geniuses with humility; there are so few of us left.
^ Yup. What was that saying about horse shoes and hand grenades?
The renewal has officially started and still no JD.
It's not just renewals, new seats are open now as well.
I don't think it matters that he hasn't signed when ticket sales/renewals open up. In fact I would expect it this way. TFC would want things to be open when he is announced so that people can pick up the phone at the time and buy their tickets. I would expect that it happens very soon though if it does. I'd think they would open the window shortly before announcing it.
That's probably more troubling as holding off to January to coincide with the transfer window probably included "announce big name signing" in the plans.
I suppose as long as there is no short term deadline on the renewal then they can announce a signing at a later date to still have impact.
Assuming they get... Uh... "Closer" to signing him.
I am getting tiered of this story. Lets get a definative answer and move on.
Well, Nelsen claimed the names being floated were just the top options from a long list. If they're full of shit about that, they might be in big trouble. Gilardino seems to be saying he's going nowhere. If Hodgson tells Defoe MLS will hurt his chances, he'll go somewhere else in Europe for less money, I imagine, as he's already made millions.
^ more on this "close" story from MLSSoccer.com:
On Tuesday the outlet cited “a high-ranking Toronto FC source” who described the January transfer of Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe to TFC as “not done yet, but close,” with Defoe's concerns about his place in England's World Cup team apparently the only major stumbling block to the deal.
At time of publication, Toronto FC had not yet responded to MLSsoccer.com's request for comment on the report.
SI.com said the Canadian club “has been pushing hard for Defoe” and remain interested in Italian star Alberto Gilardino, in addition to their recent signing of Brazilian forward Gilberto to a Designated Player deal.
...
“It is Defoe’s desire to be part of England’s World Cup squad that has his January transfer destination still up in the air,” writes SI.com's Grant Wahl. “And might Defoe increase his World Cup chances by making a move to, say, West Ham, which reportedly has interest in him as well?”
Defoe, 31, has earned just three starts for Spurs thus far in league play this season, but has notched seven goals in five UEFA Europa League contests and netted two strikes in three League Cup games.

^ They just rehashed the SI article, there's no new information there.
^ yeah but if I didn't read that SI article then it's "new to me"

England ranks 13th. USMNT ranks 14th.
Most of the USMNT play in MLS.
If the Lions playing in EPL are so terribly amazing, why are the Yanks ranked so closely, when all of them play in "such a shite league", the MLS.
This is not lost on the English skipper. He will be in better shape playing in Toronto than sitting on the Spurs bench. West Ham cannot afford him.

John Molinaro @JohnMolinaro 8m Expect De Rosario to be announced by end of this week and Defoe by early next week, sources tell me. #TFC
