And the Reds got a 2017 4th round pick, how funny.

The salary cap is intended to be a brake. It's easy to lighten up on that brake initially but the more you do that, it gets more tricky to control it. Eventually a different control mechanism will be needed other than salary cap.
So we didn't use buyout unless we traded Ecks MLS rights to RBNY for their 4th round pick?
The health care plan deductibles on triplets probably cost him more then his salary would have been in Portland.
Hope it all turns out ok.
(Edit: Geez, you think about a post for 3 minutes and suddenly your pronouns have a Burnley boy magically having triplets and being traded to NY instead of Portland due to health care)
Kosic, of course...not Ecks.

If we need a player bought out we can always send the player and a pick to a team who would then end up buying him out, right.
4th round 2017 pick might be a bag of potatoes, but that we actually got ANYTHING for him on his salary, is a minor miracle!

We may be paying some, but a lot? The sole purpose for the move was cap relief. If we ended up paying a bunch of his salary, there was no point in doing it.
With Eckersley gone could we use a Buy Out on Elmer (would also get a International spot to no?) and take the difference in salary plus some Allc. money and pay Laba down or is that not allowed?.... whats even happening with Elmer $125,000 for a 3rd stringer is Ludacris
Unfortunately salary cap isnt used to pay down Transfer fees so no

I can basically guarantee you we're paying 50% of it at least. I don't see how you consider it a pointless move though... is paying 50% of his cap hit not better than paying 100% of it?
The entire league saw Eckersley lose his spot at the tail end of last year, they all saw us sign Orr, they all know Eckersley's contract is ridiculous, and they all know we must be getting into a tight spot cap-wise with all the signings we've made thus far and the Laba situation. We had zero leverage in trading Ecks. If the league allowed straight up intra-league transfers, we'd have given him to New York for nothing and we'd still be eating some of his salary. The 4th round pick is essentially nothing anyways. There probably won't even be a 4th round in 2017.
Posted this about 10 days ago. Just waiting for the Elmer buyout now (assuming we still have our buyout available, which I believe is the case). Orr will probably end up being the starting RB against Seattle though.

Bloom starting RB and Orr is the back up?Bloom starting RB, Orr back up RB.
Do you think a guy like Bradley Orr is going to come here on loan to be a back-up?
Better yet, why would you waste an(other) international roster slot on someone to be a back-up
big difference between the two is one is young and has 'potential' (in the eyes of management - cuz i certainly don't see it) and secondly, Lambe will be able to apply for permanent residency by the start of the 2015 season (aka he'd be a domestic with that)
i should also add, i have no problem with international roster spots being used on players with potential (like an Andre Lewis in Vancouver)
Let's just say that the utility of the trade diminishes with more of Eck's salary we have to cover. 50% seems about right.
Whoever is picking up the cost, Ecks is getting another season on high wages, so things worked out well for him.
