Yes we have gotten lucky with Oso, Henry, and Morgan, and to some extent Bekker. But adding in more canadians? I will pass. We can get far better within the MLS then any of the canadians playing abroad.
A passport shouldn't determine a spot on a team, barring the need to fit within the international roster spots. This goes both ways.

I wouldn't want to sign a player just because they're Canadian, but I also wouldn't say no to signing a player just because he is Canadian.

Talent and character are more important than nationality. If he's a good player, it doesn't matter where he comes from.

See Julian de Guzman.

Bringing up young players through your academy is another thing, and a very good idea.
TFC never properly focus on Canadian players. DeGuzman signing was Mo's desperate attempt to keep supporters happy. Besides De Guzman, we didn't really overpaid Canadian players unlike international players.

And yes I agree that most of our Canadian players should come through academy which TFC is doing a good job (there's always improvements to be made though).

Rumours floating around that LA almost had Eto'o signed before... might be a continuation of Leiweke's relationship with Eto'o for TFC
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

Defoe seemed not really a part of it today.....never got any service and was run into by his own man, he's definitely not their go to guy . Very disorganized today . Is this what we would see if we can't get him service ? An AM please!....PS interesting article from BBC website on our league and the need to get better players as well as other ideas.....

I’m not too concerned about the form of these players currently. In MLS terms, they all clear that hurdle many times over. They’re all talented enough to succeed here.

What they’ll have to adjust to is the low-rent nature of the league and the idea that they have to be “the guy”. You can’t just sit back and expect the game to come to you.

The Eto'o story makes sense I guess. He remains the only elite player I can think of who actually went to a lesser team/league in his prime, just for boatloads of cash. For that reason alone, of all the names being mentioned, he is the likeliest.

I'm trying to stop looking at this thread.

It just makes me feel like I'm Leiweke's chump.

I think so. Although there is enough in there to suggest that he could be a legit target. We know he'll follow money, he's just old enough to accept a final payday, and is out of contract next summer.

That being said, this guy is a coach killer and can get unhappy quickly.

You think Quaresma would be a good fit with TFC, he is a free agent and 30 years old???

For non-DP money, I don't see any issues with signing him. He can be low risk, high reward player for us.

I highly doubt he'd be willing to come to Toronto for non-DP money.

That being said, if you COULD somehow convince him to come for a Convey type salary (200-250k), of course you take a look at him.

As long as he is in shape, he has the talent to be a big improvement over guys like Lambe, Braun, Weids, and potentially Convey, Earnshaw, or even Rey.

Being reported on twitter that Eto'o turned TFC down.

    No surprise there.

Defoe and Gilardino are far better targets then Eto'o. Hope we can get news this week on one or both. Maybe tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
