I agree with you but I was just paraphrasing what he said. They asked about TFC and his answer was about winning a championship and not going to a rebuilding side. My opinion is that we are not rebuilding too but sounds like his opinion of TFC may be that we are given his answer. I guess the lure of Toronto being his home town and depending on the TFC offer, if there is one, compared to any others that he gets will make his decision.
Hey, anyone know our draft pick status. I forget.
Do we have 2 first rounders?
No one is touching that deal. Not even the terminally inept Chivas (if DC do offer him about that is). Plus Jakovic is basically pure shite and I think Tim B is a bit smarter than to pay that kind of bucks on what would be a 4th CB. I'd take Attakora over Jakovic hands down regardless of differences in salary.

Toronto FC trades rights to Convey for 2014 first-round MLS SuperDraft pick and a 2016 third-round MLS SuperDraft pick
Is that 4 picks next year for us now?
I was wrong
2014 picks:
1) NY (for convey)
2015
1) Ours
2) Chivas (for bocanegra)
3) Seattle (conditional for Frei)
4) Portland (for Urruti)
Any I'm missing?

We dont have our 2014 1st rounder. Vancouver has it for the Hassli trade.
"Toronto FC announced Friday that the club has acquired forward Eric Hassli from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for Toronto’s first round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft along with an international roster spot through the 2013 season. Hassli will be considered a Designated Player and occupy an International Roster spot."
I keep trying to block that trade from memory
So Convey is off to New York. Where did that rumour of a three way trade involving him, Alston and Cooper come from?
One thing I will say about Bez so far is he's managed to get something out of nothing twice now. Both Frei and Convey were guys we didn't want and were on their way out the door regardless. We were able to get 2 1st round picks for them. That's gotta say something about him.
I liked Convey myself. Did a job, if unspectacular. Sad to see him go.
I remember the game where he ripped the ball out of Eckersley's hands to prevent him from launching yet another jump ball into the arms of the 'keeper off a free kick. We need more guys like that.

Wow that's a good deal of business. We originally traded him for a supplemental draft pick.
That's a fantastic bit of business. I liked Convey, but I don't see any version of reality in which he is worth a first round pick.
Given that that pick is not a high one, we will hopefully see Bez turn that into something useful for us.

Blows my mind how we would get a first round pick for Convey, but maybe it's the soccer gods making right on the Hassli deal.
and convey was on 215k don't forget. even more room to work with
we offloaded
braun 114,000
convey 215,000
earnshaw 155,000
eckersley 310,000
frei 200,000
koevermans 368,000
russell 110,000
thomas 60,000
total: 1,472,000
added:
jackson $165,000
2 DP's 736,000
total: 901,000
still have about 571,000 to play with. this is all guaranteed compensation btw, not sure of all the accounting tricks used by mls with base versus guaranteed. lol.
plus the allocation which we have no clue about the details of it.

This Convey deal was fantastic asset management.
Paid a supplemental. He filled a role adequately last season.
No longer needed, we got a supplemental back, plus added a 1st.
This is the type of smart asset management that is required to be successful in a salary cap league, and what TFC has been terrible at in the past.
It's where I think (hope) Bez will prove to be a major addition to our club.
I am happy with this trade, but folks seem to be missing the detail that we also trade away our 2nd round pick to NY:
"The New York Red Bulls announced today that they have acquired former U.S.
national team midfielder Bobby Convey, as well as Toronto FC’s natural 2014 MLS
SuperDraft second-round selection (22nd overall).
In exchange, New York sent its natural 2014 MLS SuperDraft first-round pick
(15th overall) and its 2016 first-round
Supplemental Draft pick to Toronto FC."
This means all we really got from this is going up in the draft by 5 places.
So... will Gilberto be announced today?
I didn't see that extra 2nd rounder in the initial reports...
While that makes the deal a bit more even, the point about great asset management still stands.
Convey filled a role for a season, and the net price for him (besides paying his salary last year) actually ended being that we moved UP from a 2nd to a 1st.
Solid move by Bez, and I look forward to more from him.
