If you haven't yet seen the SSG..... DON'T!!!
TORONTO FC, 2017 MLS CHAMPIONS!!! (Still the greatest in league history!)
Wow. I'm obviously in the very small minority in thinking that the call on Caldwell was justified.
It seems that everyone in the footy world of MLS thinks that his hand on the defenders shoulder did nothing and the goal should have counted. I wonder if NE had scored that way in the 88th minute...would Caldwell have screamed foul if it was allowed?
Would all the articles in TO papers be screaming that we were robbed?
Yeah, probably. LOL
Simple question to answer: If Caldwell's hand on the shoulder did nothing....why did he put it there?
Balance?
It could have gone either way and I honestly believe had it been against TFC the goal would have stood.
Dom
The ref. was allowing this sort of contact in the box for the entire game; it would be silly for our players not to exploit this, whilst playing the victim and throwing their hands up whenever NER were busy taking advantage.
Again, the ref. sets the standard and then it's expected that he remains consistent. If he erroneously misses a call, earlier, then fair play to call that goal back and not go for a cheap make-up (non-)call. To be honest, however, I don't think that, on occasions where there might have been similar contact, he believes he's made a mistake to let it go and so it shouldn't be called at random, in the case of Caldwell's game-winning goal.
