I wonder if someone (at the Sun or in TFC's front offfice) really thought that an article about nobody being safe was in the best interests of the team to be published on a game day. The good thing is probably few of them read it before the game because they were away. But then, reading it post game aftr a win would probably be as big a kick in the groin. Articles like that make me wonder whether Payne and/or the media really want to see a successful TFC team. That interview just seems mojo-esque.

On that note, great to see the win on the weekend - it wasn't expected!

During the game, Little Red asked the question has anyone on this team every seen their contract through to the end? And thinking about it, I'm not sure that many of the revolving door that has been TFC ever have. Maybe Adrian Cann? Or was his contract cut short? Maybe Mista, who was on a shortened contract? Attakora? I really can't think of many, although perhaps a few role players might have.

    Sun article

    Meh...

Just remember when reading every Larson article- He's no fan of the guy who fired his source.

    Everything follows from that.

Payne said a variation on the same thing at the beginning of the season. There is no news here.

A 'Nobody Is Safe' article is kind mute in the terms of MLS players. I mean, other than a high profile DP, is there really any player on any team in the MLS who can consider their job "safe"?

In the world or sports, the idea of job security is about nil unless you're one of the top players in the world in your sport.

I don't get the issue with Payne's comments. Just looking at the squad now, Only 4 started the game at Vancouver. The transition has already happened.

I don't mind lighting a fire under the player's asses whether it be in the media or through acquisitions. Since Elmer came in, Morgan had probably his best game this season. Caldwell said he was beating Sene (who is 4 inches taller) in the air 4 out of 5 times.

I agree! That was my point yesterday, but I didn't get much backing in the Monday news thread... Competition for spots is great. But I don't like some of the stuff Payne says -- the premature "99% sure" comments as well as this quote and similar.

The game vs. New England was pretty good, but also extremely lucky. NE players finish one or two chances that they usually put away, the conversation on here would be very different. I wish Payne would sign those amazing players he's always hinting at, and let their play on the field and in training do the talking and create the competition for spots. Better than him flapping his jaw, before he has much to show for it. (BTW other MLS teams seem to be able to sign South- and Central-American players w/o so much drama...)

I can't remember which commentator mentioned this a few weeks ago. Certain players can do better with a bit of confidence, with a bit of trust, that they're not always hanging at the end of a cliff. Otherwise you can kill creativity and risk-taking. It can lead to endless "booting it long" for fear of making a single mistake with the ball.
