Default Payne: Toronto FC pursuing third DP, Urruti

What do you guys think TFC's chances are? They have the money, would it be well spent? I think so.

not really. the amount of money involved in Dempsey deal is like the heralding of MLS 3.0, a DP based teams with money and transfer fees being thrown around

but you do have a point.

Why do I have a strange feeling we're going to bring him in to BMO for lots of money and he's going to suck

Because of the same reason you said he's going to be stolen by another team, 3 posts ago...

I actually didn't think he was going to come because other teams showed interest, but he's apparently coming here on Tues.
I've changed my he could score some nice goals for us

Better signing than Forlan would have been. Urruti is an up-and-coming star that has attracted the attention of Pumas and Valencia, while Forlan has his best days well and truly behind him. Urruti is fit, versatile for a striker, and will want to make a bigger name for himself in the hopes of making one of the big Euro leagues after a few seasons here in MLS. All said, I think he could be a great asset for TFC.

    Big +1 on this.

Urutti is a far better signing than Forlan. Younger, faster, more of an upside. We bring him in that will be two (Urutti, Laba) players that can easily be targets of Europe and Mexico which we can bank on transfer fees. It's only a win win situation.

We agree Urutti is a BIG PLUS!
However, our concern is with Payne's comments about the rest of the team.
"By the end of this season we will be a very different team. I’m not sure if there will be anybody who started at the beginning of the season other than Joe Bendik who will end up being on the field."

Looks like Max Urruti is leaving tonight to have his medical and sign with TFC tomorrow morning or afternoon:

Have any of you actually watched him play? Hard to fathom he is better than Forlan.

They've been after him at same time they were after Forlan. They wanted both but one seems to have fallen through. Shouldn't compare them...although Forlan is obviously better right now and Payne thinks Urruti has star potential in MLS.

I really like Danny but I don't see him doing much for us in the future. I don't see a reason to bring him back as a DP.

Koef is going to have a decision to make.. Go from 1.6 million to 150k, or look for a new club at 35

Koef would be a good 3rd option up top next season but like IVY pointed out it would have to be for 150Kish... spot starts and a big target to bring in in the 70th min

At the right price, I'd be happy to have Koevs play this role.
I still think he has goals in him. Anyone say "Super-Sub"?

It's too bad sports goes this way. Danny and Frings may have been a bit old but both played as well as they could and were real pros - not prima donnas. Love to see Danny back if he's healthy and we can give him a deal that works for him.

Meanwhile, hope we wrap up Urruti soon...

Good point. Expectations shouldn't be for a bucket full every game.

His rate per minute played would become 13 goals a season in MLS if he started and played every minute. I'd be happy with that.

Given he played mostly as a sub, if anything, that's liable to go up as he becomes accustomed to the league.

He's a long term project. That's what young 22 year old DP's are.

But, you're right, he's not going to score like Gretzky.

ALHAHLAHAHAHAHAHAH "sent a letter to the Canadian Soccer Association" HAHAHAAHAHAHLAHLAHAAHHAHAHA Quick, someone tell them that's just a bunch of guys somewhere in Canada who apparently don't own a phone. Don't ask Nelson for the number. They may or may not get back to you by the time Urruti retires at a ripe old age. CSA is a joke, as they will find out

I can't see him staying on at $150k. He could likely sign on with a second division club back home (or close to home) for at least that salary.
