7 years of going back to zero... sums it up. Hope all the cubicles at BMO field have that article pinned to their wall.

From the Doyle article (which deserves a thread of its own):

“The team has no identity, none,” she said. “Only the fan culture has an actual identity.”
“What the world needs is more geniuses with humility; there are so few of us left.”

I read up to part where we have signed aging deadbeat players and then stopped.

I thought the reporting was accurate up to this point and from the paragraph after this, but this was a journalistic pile-on. Still, it [paints a pretty bleak picture. But as they say, winning cures everything, so lets wait until next year at this time and see what tune their singing...

John Doyle has me spitting mad....
It is not the factual side that is in question, rather the spirit, the timing and general disdain.
His take could be directed at the Whitecaps, the Canadian Men's team and a host of other teams over the years as soccer has tried for decades to gain a foothold in Canada. The fact that Montreal has been strong out of the gate this year makes them immune from his arrows, but should they slip he could pounce with the same venom.

Yes, Canada has no soccer superstars to build a team around. If the US has some talented players, chances are they would be playing in the US or overseas. Who was this article written for, the smug semi-fan who chooses a team on television and semi-cheers for them?
