Some MLS news (makes sense, who is out in the sun more than soccer players?):

LA Galaxy and Team USA Soccer Star Landon Donovan Partners with The Skin Cancer Foundation to Encourage Men to Stay Safe in the Sun

Donovan featured in public awareness campaign to educate men on proper sun protectionand skin cancer prevention

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

Dobson on Canada: Yikes. He's a 100% right when you look at the roster, but its the players fault for wanting to play in Europe rather than in the 3 MLS teams. Less money but better chances of playing time. Oh well.

    This quote from Tony Fonseca:

"As Fonseca pointed out during a lengthy conversation about player development, we’ve got it all backwards right now. Instead of players coming into camp and simply preparing for an opponent, they’re here to get playing time and try to get better as players."

^ but keep in mind our development model is broken as well. I doubt osorio makes the first team today if he developed for TFCA instead of in Uruguay. Other systems have better pyramids than we do and a larger payoff in the end. Kevin Aleman reportedly just signed a full pro contract in Spain last week, I'd say that more than validates the choice to leave. Jonathan Lao has made similar to MLS entry level money for years playing in the lower levels of Germany. He's probable getting more money, better training, and more PT there was well.

The biggest issue is that our development system at home is broken and players are mismanaged, I can't fault anyone for trying to go elsewhere when Europe has developed better players and has a larger financial payoff.

I also think Fonseca is certifiably nuts if he believes the national team program at the sr level is going to develop players. Astounding how a youth coach gets promoted then says something like this. What does that say about the job he did in his previous position?

Part of the problem is lack first division all Canadian professional league that is dedicated developing and playing Canadians in professional environment. Yes at the grassroot level, we need a lot of coaches who know how to develop youth players instead of being more concern of winning games, but these kids need something to play for as well. Not every kid can pack their bags and go to Europe to develop over there.

The 'TFC: Not the worst team' link does not seem to be correct. It takes one to the general media page for TFC. I'd like to see that so if someone can point me in the right direction I'd be much obliged.

And also, Carlos Tevez to TFC?!? Please no....

A couple of notes from the Sun article that caught me off guard: MLS is ranked 7th in the world by World Soccer Magazine, and TFC has a grand total of ONE victory in their last 26 league games. Good grief, I must have lost track. That is just an astounding record of futility, even by our standards.

Tevez is probably just a bit too ambitious for TFC, but I think a guy like Fabrizio Miccoli would be great for TFC or MLS.....Palermo is being relegated in Italy, and he most likely will leave them......still has much to offer at 33 years old......

Here is the criteria for the rankings

The survey evaluated details which included league income, goals per game, the amount of different clubs to have won a title, the number of stadiums that had been built in the past decade, the extent of players who had played in the most recent World Cup and the clubs' competitiveness in their continent's major tournaments.
Makes sense the MLS is high based on those. Lots of new stadiums built (due to new teams/league - unfair advantage to MLS here IMHO), lots of goals scored due to weaker defenses, MLS-inflated attendance figures, aging star players...

I think it's measuring more financial strength, not quality of play. By that measure, MLS should be right up there. Games are well attended (Seattle has one of the higher ones in the world), $100 million for NY2, only T.V. is lagging.
