In a way you could look at the situation very optimistically. When was the last time TFC got a player who was good enough for a coach to blockade a potential transfer, its seem like he is fighting very hard to keep him. This is very good sign if we do sign him.

Yeah Larson never said Urruti was done. His last tweets on Urruti & Laba were: "While Nelsen said he's still hopeful of the Argentines coming in, he said eventually club will have to draw the line and move on. / Nelsen offered this reason for slow movement on Argentines: 'Their coach is putting his foot down a bit. It's a battle of who's in charge.' "

From what Nelsen etc have said, I think it's safe to say neither deal is done. I suspect they won't be.

@KurtLarSUN: Urruti is done. As for the other guy, CP is the only one to report on him. RT @Kam_Ivan: @KurtLarSUN TFC Argentines... Done deal or not?

@KurtLarSUN: @Kam_Ivan It was never done, it was "virtually done," according to the club and sources.

    /facepalm.

Max Urruti in starting lineup for Newell's Old Boy's league game vs. Velez Sarsfield:

    http://espnfc.com/us/en/gamecast/sta...t=true&cc=5901

Get a sense every day that passes that he's not signing with TFC.

This is why from John Molinaro:

    NOTES:

Nelsen offered no update on Maximiliano Urruti, the young forward from Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys who TFC have been trying to secure on loan. Just a few weeks ago Nelsen said the deal was “virtually done.” But on Tuesday, Nelsen hinted that there was a power struggle going on between Newell’s Old Boys management (who want to send him out on loan) and the coach (who has put his foot down and wants him to stay). The deal with Toronto isn’t dead, but it’s clear that Nelsen is losing patience, saying: “It’s getting to a (point) where we’re going to have to draw a line behind it at some stage and move on.”

How many times during the past have we been led to believe that the dithering in pre season would be forgotten by the summer with the advent of new players. I think Payne is running into the same wall as his predecessors and what we have got now is all we can expect. I still say fewer than 7 wins.

Great Max Urruti scores for Newell's in the 77th minute and it's now 3-1 Newell's Old Boys. Great now for sure he's not signing with TFC. Man we need Kovermans soon, but he's not likely to return to action before June. I knew this signing would go bust. FUCK.

Although I was/am excited about Laba, I really don't care about Urruti one way or the other. I don't think he is such a find and being a loan and young means he could come, impress and then leave. Also, we are reasonably strong in the front.

Laba Otoh would add to us where we are weak and seems like a rarer and finer commodity.

classic TFC . a deal that was two days from being announced in mid March turns into a six week hype. Why is there never a backup plan?

I will note that this started as another "exclusive" that turns out to not be a story:

    http://forums.redpatchboys.ca/showth...tion-etc/page2

Edit: We're also now 23 pages past the point at which Ensco and I predicated this might not happen.

    That's south america for you.

There's a reason only a handful of successful MLS signings have come out of either Argentina or Brazil, and it's because doing business there for soccer players is heinous (particularly in Brazil).

There are many great players in Uruguay, Mexico, Chile etc that we could have looked at to shore up resources, so this is beginning to look like a foolish pursuit.

I would like to think with Payne's experience, there would be a back up plan. He is hardly likely to say in public, if we don't sign the Argies, we will sign such and such is he.......

this IS the point. As soon as the rumours go public the teams involved seem tocall in their blackmail specialists. I don't envy Payne. We have to allow for honest double crosses, as noted esp in South and Central America , where finances seem to be everywhere but within the club. I'm sure Payne regrets this transaction info getting out.

Some rumors on twitter of Kevin Davies joining us. If true, may be short term help...

"Kevin Davies would not be a Designated Player signing for Toronto (similar to Earnshaw)."

Back-up plan maybe, for those nay-sayers. Hopefully but waiting for the signing.

Good tough attacking mid/forward who can finish. Decent option to pair with Earnshaw, but long in the tooth now. Bolton wouldn't be letting him go if he could still produce at that level, as he's a club legend.

Davies has been properly iconic for a decade for Bolton, but I don't think he's even MLS level anymore. I hope no-one here gets excited by his England cap being fairly recent, but an ageing 1960s-style striker might not be what TFC needs right now. But it's par for the course by MLSE to sign another UK player. YAWN.

If he's essentially just a rental player (signed in the summer, released by the end of the season) I wouldn't mind him joining. If we're not getting Urruti and we have the cap space to burn it wouldn't be a big issue.

I got to think that there will many other opportunities in the summer window, especially with QPR having to shed a massive amount of salary. If this Davies talk is for a short term deal, maybe. Otherwise, talking about a 36 year old player doing much for us long term is a major step backwards.

Davies has been long rumoured to be The Secret Footballer. The book is a must read.

Curious if anyone is looking at Malaga or Valencia players. These teams are broke as a joke, I'm sure they wouldn't mind loaning out some legs

Yeah I'd like to see someone next to Earnshaw up top who is even faster and will push the opposing defenders even harder when defending.

MLS window closes May 6th. Might be better to wait for summer.

    Have to agree.

But as already mentioned here for a 6 month deal and with no other options I am willing to let management off the hook on this one.

Let's hope something else pans out first.... hopefully something younger, much younger, say like 21 and DP quality.
