Not that I think it has any realistic chance of actually happening... but Balotelli is the absolute PERFECT player to fit as Lieweke's DP.
He's buddy's with Drake, who MLSE has already attached themselves to.
His name and brand transcends football... (Drake raps about him in songs, he consistently appears in tabloids and is seen with celebrities, he has endorsement deals with companies like Nike, etc.)
He is going to play in the World Cup for Italy, and would be a massive draw for the GTA's huge Italian population.
He's a prolific Striker.
He's still YOUNG!
(although that last point is probably the biggest reason we have no chance of actually getting him)

Head sheds heads over to Europe for DP hunting trip
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

I would love Xavi and anybody but I doubt he'd come here. Rooney fits the loner out of sorts type who may not feel the need to play Champions League and would be here for 6-8 years. And he is the only guy that I can think of that fits TL's "better then Beckham" idea.
Pirlo would be fun but doesn't fit the goal scorer type - TL would have to pivot. Frankly, I think he should.
Hulk would be a BIG story but I think he wants Champions League.
Couple names not mentioned would be:
Drogba - not EPL/Itilian but still looks fit and has the name that TL wants. Also doesn't hurt that he can still score with the best of them
Nasri - I think it was an Ives story a while ago where he said that he would be open to MLS but i don't think it would be now... probably 1 more Euro contract before he takes the trip over the pond.
Balotelli and MLS refs, ha ha fun times.
If you're anything like me, it's because not one of those guys has any track record of identifying talent. I can't believe they are going to spend this amount of money and allow these people to run the process. For a portion of that money we are going to spend on a couple of show ponies, we could hire the best coaching staff in the league top-to-bottom for the next ten years.
Claudio Reyna and Denilson part II here we come.

Hopefully they've already done that. Tried to, at least lol. Blind darts, anyone?
What Nelsen said here makes me hope he's still after someone he talked to in the summer:Leiweke told a recent supporters' breakfast that the itinerary includes "a half-dozen players and teams." The focus is on players with English Premier League and Italian Serie A clubs.
"In my experience of being in the situation myself, being on the other side of it, it generally takes a bit of time," he said. "But I'd come back to you and say we might have already started that a few months ago."

Juve is selling...
So other than Pirlo, MLS bait might be Quagliarella? Vucinic? Right age for a final big paycheck, still can play, and TFC can pay them a wage just as good, if not better than most Serie A teams. And Juve has depth at forward

I like this Balotelli talk. He could backheel 30 goals a season!
Hows this for a conversations starter: Who fits TL's profile and comes from a country unlikely to qualify for the next WC?
Olic could be MLS bound mid season or in the summer. He's definitely up there in age and has had recent injury issues. He stays under the radar in the Croatian media so I could see how the MLS might be a viable option for him.

O, Maple Leaf around the world, You speak as you rise high above,
Of courage, peace and quiet strength, Of the Canada that I love.
Remind us all, our union bound by ties we cannot sever,
Bright flag revered on every ground, The Maple Leaf forever
So with them actually heading over and talking to teams and players I wonder how much will be leaked as to who they are meeting with.

Lampard's contract is up again at the end of the season. I think he would be a good fit, and Lieweke has already made the approach when he was at LA.
Lampard seems probable. However he will be turning 36 next summer, injury risk and fitness will obviously be a question.
As Lampard's fiance is well established in British TV, I doubt he is going anywhere.
Lampard is not what we need. He is not a striker, he is not a good passer, he is 36. He was a good player but he is done put a fork in him.
Personally i think people are aiming way to high, Rooney?, id be ecstatic but really?, i think were going for more of a Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe or or even more of a grasp Ben Arfa or Bent, either way im really excited to see what we bring in plus pick up from around the league
He fits the profile given for one. Spurs are continuosly improving their squad and I think he will be out of favour and shown the door in the summer alla Keane and Dempsey. It will be an easy 5 mill or so for Levy to bank when balancing the books as he likes to do.
He strikes me as the type that would love being a big fish in a small pond.
Nelsen knows him from his year at Spurs too.
Just a hunch is all.
