“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”
-Eduardo Galeano
Nigel Reed @Nigel_Reed 33s "We will be over in Europe soon" says Tim Leiweke on targets "marquee DPs". #TFC
So the limitations are $25 million and they have to be available either by transfer or by a contract running out at the end of June 2014.
And they have to be able to contribute until the end of 2016.
well Kaka wont be joining anytime soon..even though there was 0% chance of that happening
Jesus. Same mistake as the idiots before him.
If you're tipping your hand this early in a player hunt, what you're effectively saying is "agents, shop your players to us." That's the wrong way to find what you want. Better to scout hours of film (it's all available now through online subscription databases) and see which players at a lower level or equivalent level to MLS consistently raise the game of the team around them. Then go after specific targets in multiple markets, doing the whole thing quietly.
I'm not as pessimistic as some, but this kind of start worries me.
It's probably the biggest names that you can get from Serie A and the EPL for designated players. If it were up to me, which in unfortunately isn't, I would be hands down Francesco Totti of AS Roma, and Samir Nasri of Manchester City. Why not just "blow the doors out," spare no expense and bring the big guns in? We already love Totti in Toronto like a 2nd son and Nasri, would be just dying to come to North America, bringing some of that EPL magic with him. With the MLSE as backers and a lot of ground work we would have the ultimate football leader, and premier football distributer in the world. No BS just a really good team.
If they're not setting a bar that high, maybe they can settle for both ex-Stoke guys Mario Balotelli AND Jermaine Pennant. Why? Because these two guys caused Ryan Nelsen a lot of problems as player in the EPL in recent memory and being former teammates, would be able to link up easy. Only problem is dealing with Balotelli's temper.

So TL and RN are hoping to mine Italy for a DP, possibly a marquee one...and possibly after the WC.

Here's the list of pending 2014 free agents out of the Serie A:

Eckersley out at end of contract?
“When I see all my friends that I grew up with playing in the Premiership then obviously I have an itch to try and see what's out there. I've got another year on my contract here so maybe after that, it will be the right time.”

Our next DP http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/an...eler_6031.html you heard it here first.
A bit of a guess but more of a great deal of hope, he is a top notch striker and at a age where he my look for a new challenge. if Di vaio is tearing up mls Di Natale would realy tear this league apart.
^ Funny, when TL said he was going to look into a marquee Serie A name, the only one that maked any sense to me would be Di Natale. Totti is not coming, he already stated that he is gonna retire for the Merda.
Sad to see he's been one of our best and most consistent player, I pray he stay and really hope he resigns, but if he dosnt I'm still happy to wear his jersey around with pride loved his play Scholes style and I'm a united supporter so that was a plus. Again would love to see him stay and am really hoping he does
I could see TL going for a player like Pavelchynko, Odemwingie, Crouch, Owen (I knw hrs retired now though), guys like that who have a good 3-5 years in them
Don't think it will be Di Natalie, but more like Alberto Gilardino or Marco Borriello:

i hope its not Gilardino hit and miss more often miss
How about luca toni might be suited for the more physical mls?
Pirlo can have a vineyard in NOTL and boat to it on Saturday nights after providing sweet sweet service.

It's back! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.....
So Dike. Looking good, but if we infact go after 2 striker DPs, will he be happy coming off the bench?
No, no, no. Be realistic. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/da...ler_15698.html
They'll sell out of his jerseys before he even gets here.
Word on the street is, Adebayor.
