No, he just made it clear he's not coming back after his contract expires. It's great that he's been upfront about it to end any speculation about re-negotiation, etc.

Didn't want to post this earlier becuase I wanted to respect Danny's privacy but I've known since June (and so has mgmt) that this was going to happen.

Hopefully he gets back in for a few games, for September and October. Would be nice to see him do a successful swan song.

He's Old. He's injury plagued. He's taking too much cap room. We have replacements (and options for more).
    Bye Koevs!
Totally agree. I think it's classy that TFC did not buy him out and instead is letting him enjoy his last few months here, healthy or not. Come winter, it's time to move on.

Not sure classy has anything to do with it. We can only buy out one player a year and we used that opportunity on Frings. We could let Koevermans walk and still pay him / take the cap hit, but I don't think that works well for anyone.

Koev was that pure instinctive striker that really loved the game. It was obvious his contract would run out this year with no chance of resigning that DP status. Just by hearing Nelsen talk about him in the past few months tells you all you need to know about his pending status here.
Best striker we have had on this team, these types of players do not grow on trees.

I don't understand why they couldn't find a way to buy him out before the season started. It was clear he was not going to recover in time, and was barely fit enough to play week to week prior to the big injury.

I've defended Payne alot, but this one baffled me.

I was excited to see a pairing of Earnshaw and Koevs up front; i thought it could be a very dangerous combo... i hope i get to see that at least once before he leaves

Kovermann was a great sniper around the net and the only pure striker we ever had on the team. I would have loved to seen a healthy Kovermann with Earnshaw and Orosio. All the best to him.

They've paid him $$$ over a year without playing a single game for us.
We can use his cap space to find better deals in Latin America (or even buy soccer balls that will see game action).

There are clauses that protect injured players.

So what about the second signing. Urruti is this week but Payne said he expected to close a second player next week. Is there any thoughts on who that might be? Personally I would like a speedy outside mid or Winger. I hear Bale is available for a mere 100 million Euros

I truly, believe that a real classic CF is the way to go, for us. A young one to play with Urruti, if we ever sign him would be ideal.

Just to clarify, I'm saying walk away from the team right now.

I agree with you, I would rather he move on next year. I'm just saying because of the rules and our Frings transaction, they couldn't buy him out even if they wanted to.

You can only buy out one player a year. Toronto bought out Frings.

Newells vice president done a interview 15 or so minutes ago saying they finished necessary documentation of Urruti transfer this morning...... so he should sign before Saturdays game I suppose

Betcha we never find one that equals his strike rate.

His strike rate was good well over a year ago before his injury. But he's not a good investment at this point IMO.
Again, I'd prefer to bring in someone younger (and likely cheaper).

    Thank God.
Good to have that drama over with.
Now let's get him ready to play!

So apparently we signed some guy named Urruti... http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2013/08...c-signs-urruti

Anybody know anything about this guy?

Edit: Always a step behind. I should have figured as much...

I like Koevs. But he is done. A healthy Koevs who can play another season or two is one thing. But the reality is that he is done.

I'll betcha 2 pints at BMO Fielf that we do . that is whenever I come back to Toronto, as I live out West . Look at Camilo for the Whitecaps. He was an unknown South American player and now had a terrific strike rate and goals per game high rate. I'm sure there are more Camilo type players out there as half of Kooevermans contract
