Wouldn't be surprised as he spent time with Payne in DC...
Thoughts?
@BobbyBrizzo Hearing that Hassli to #FCD is indeed to free up the space for Freddy Adu. #TFC #FreddyAdu4TFC

i think i'm going to throw up.
I can confirm that Bobby believes Freddy Adu will sign for Toronto FC.
He`s too unreliable. He would have to come at a significant discount for this acquisition to make sense. Much less than his present $500K salary - me hopes. He`s been linked to Blackburn as well.
"Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports
I know a lot of people are saying 'OMG not Freddy Adu' BUT what if he cost us $200 or $250k and no DP slot? Would he be worth that?
IMO yes, he is very good, and I think it is time we start to realize and understand that we are not going to be the team to get Frank Lampard or Falcao.
Adu is 23 and is worth something long term.
Sure. Depending on the price though.
That is the point though Pope, everything has a price.
We have something like $1.7m tied up in:
Frings $350
Hassli $350
DK $350
Ecks $3xx?
Odea $330?
Even if KP has us up over $4m total cap space that is a huge chunk. If we can see our way out of the 3 DP contracts and have 5-7 solid players for the $1.05m we are likely better off IMO
Toronto FC will also be signing the much talked of Al Ocation soon.
As Pope and sky said, it all depends on the price. If we can pick him up cheap, why not? The guy is young but still has a good deal of experience. Yeah, he never panned out as the next superstar people were hyping him out to be, but I think he could work out well for us. But again, if we're talking about the right price.
Did the USA , of all countries, just fix soccer? - C. Ronaldo, May 27th commenting on the FBI-led investigations into fraud and corruption throughout FIFA.
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”
-Eduardo Galeano
Ageless Adu. I've never been wowed by him but if he helps us...
FORMER FULL TIME KOOL-AID DRINKER
Freddy Adu is a cross between Robbie Rogers and Joao Plata. It don't hurt having him on the roster considering that there isnt that many left wingers of his "skill level" in MLS. The drawbacks though are that he's a whimp, and has developed a Napoleon syndrome thanks to the U.S. media.
*If Adu does sign with TFC, I will suggest carrying a mouth cleanser for the times you hear "The Next American Pele" in the media*

I'm not sure why people are discussing this like it's a legit rumor...
It's not, the original was a joke.
He doesn't have too. Let's pretend, for a minute, that this rumour has legs. Grumblings in Philly suggest that Adu is not the flavour of the month for many reasons mentioned in this thread. We, and we can assume other teams as well, are well versed on carrying salaries for former players who go on to play on other teams. TFC has done so. Perhaps, Philly is looking to do the same. At least, it's on option.Adu refused to re-negotiate his contract with Philadelphia; why would he with Toronto?

But if it was.......

Guys...
Now, let's not get ahead of ourselves...but this rumour, which started as a joke by Bobby, might actually have some legs.
Or Bobby got incredibly, incredibly lucky LOL.
We'll just have to wait and see. Payne and Adu have a good relationship from way back when.
OK guys, we have a place for rumour discussions. Rumours go in this thread:
http://redpatchboys.ca/forums/showth...ion-etc/page41
Please continue in there (there has already been discussion of Adu in there).
A "news" thread should be started when we have some credible news reports, not someone's joke twitterfeed, or rumours that something might have legs, but "let's not get ahead of ourselves, etc."
