Eric Avila to Santos Laguna. That's third time Avila got an interest from a Liga MX team. What do they see in Avila that we don't?

I always rated Avila. I think we should have kept him.
Chad Barrett and Stefan Frei win the U.S. Open Cup with Seattle. Barrett with a goal and Frei with a number of big saves.
Plata scored another goal last night. From Ned Grabavoy:
“He's our best player,” Grabavoy said of Plata. “I think everybody probably has a different view of that, but he's our best soccer player.”
You know, Plata was a Winter signing. I'm sure Mariner/Cochrane allowed him that pick because they thought you don't find good players that low in the draft. Notice he left right after Winter did. The more time passes from the Mariner/Cochrane era, the angrier I get that those two... buffoons put their consolidation of power ahead of what was best for the club.
I bet you they are not launching longs balls towards the smallest guy on the pitch, because that's what Winter's team essentially did with him.
Its amazing what a first class organization like RSL can do to some players, he started off on the bench then moved into a pivotal role for them, great stuff.
Plata can play his game with that club. To be fair, Winter probably would have played that game too if he'd had the right personnel ..... which is of course, to a degree, his fault although some actual help from Earl and Marriner (instead of being undermined) would have been helpful.
This is not what happened. Winter didn't "discover" him.
Plata was the star of the combine that year and would have been a very high pick but for the fact that a $500K transfer was required to acquire him. All the pre draft discussion, league wide, was about whether it was worth it to pay that for him.
Winter deserves credit for actually doing the deal, but it wasn't about draft talent identification
Your anger is not misplaced. When we (Mariner and Cochrane) gave Plata to RSL, we never recouped anything for the transfer.

Preki seems to be doing great at the D3 level. They are getting 12,000 attendance at the D3 level to watch Prekiball? If Sacramento doesn't get an MLS franchise, it will be a huge loss.

Only 20 min in so far but interesting stuff. Talking about his background and getting into football and also some of the craziness he had to deal with in Ukraine.

Joao Plata story. Doesn't go much into his stint in Toronto other than the fact that he was unsettle and had tough time adjusting to life in Toronto.

What I really picked up from this was how all Plata needed to shine was a front office that took an interest in making him comfortable and helping him adjust. That he didn't get that from Toronto just shows how totally incompetent the previous regimes had been since the start. I hate to say it, but it all comes back to Anselmi. He was the one common denominator over the 8 years. He was in way over his head and should never have been given TFC in the first place.
