Too dependant on service. Sure he can capitalize on even a small chance but on bargain basement rosters where the best players have to carry the load he was anything but ideal.

As soon as you have to move Defoe anywhere around the park he goes from DP worthy to just another solid contributor. The best players on the recent history of the league (Donovan, Henry, Keane, Gio) can impact the game in many different ways.

Defoe is one dimensional. Awesome if you are an elite team - not good if you are a MLS squad starved for talent.

Wait - what? The original quote was referencing an article about John Carver. When the heck did it become about Mama's Good Boy?
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

There are lots of things to dislike about Defoe. But he is an awfully good goal scorer, including for poor teams. He was quite perfect as a finisher for the counterattack style Nelsen played. Before today he was seven goals in nine starts (all competitions ) for Sunderland, who have been dreadful and provide little service to their strikers, or much of anything else for that matter.

he may, or may not be a prima Donna, he may have quit on us, but he is an elite finisher matched by very very few. Always has been and apparently still is.

Hmm You may be a fan but elite , my opinion is certainly not now . And others feel the same it seems re: World Cup? Right or wrong .

I wasn't talking about Defoe. I was talking about Carver.

He was actually pretty good for us in Ottawa. Both him and Heinemann will need to be replaced on offense or we're going to have the same problems we had in the spring season. I think Weideman is angling to get back into MLS through playing with Cinci FC, assuming their expansion lobbying bears fruit.

Fascinating hour long interview with Steven Caldwell
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

Well that was an interesting read! Not sure if it's really shady though. Nice find, Oldtimer.
"Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports

Never understood his firing - Julio Cesar even said he was the best goalie coach he ever worked with. If Bent was kept on, not sure why Kerr wasn't too, they both seemed to get consistent praise for their work.

Good to see the former US international finding a new home. I know he more often than not can drive you crazy with his misses, but he is a good option to have off the bench.
