From the worst team in the world, to the fattest team in the world. I like it!

The team is in Florida already? Well nice to get some training in but I'll be hoping he gets some time in Mexico in Feb and maybe this January friendly as well.

I cant imagine him going anywhere other than New York. Even if he were to join TFC I dont see this team benefitting from such a move. Mariner would probably nickname the team "The Toronto Galacticos" and Lampard as the new David Beckham in MLS.

I guess you can put the Frank Lampard to TFC to bed:

Kurtis Larson ‏@KurtLarSUN CONFIRMED: Eric Hassli will be back with #TFC as a DP to start 2013.

I would wager it's just to justify the 1st overall 2014 draft pick by Vancouver.

    Well, an attempt at justifying..

Yup, easy prediction for 2013...all 3 DP's and a big chunk of our payroll will be "on the treatment table", as Mariner puts it, for a good part of the season in 2013....and badda boom badda bing we have another excuse for doing just as shit next year. I can see Mariner's year end remarks now....They needed to cut a DP this year in my opinion and invest in some solid non-DP players that are not so injury prone.

TFC should sign him as a player/President. Bet no team has ever had a President playing for them!

Well of course, you didn't seriously expect the master of manipulating MLSE to go into the season without something to blame the losing record on did you?

The pessimist/conspiracy theorist could then extend this line of reasoning. If the DP's are injured or under perform, Mariner can then blame things on them again, and try and buy himself another year under the pretense that all 3 DP's will be off the cap and he'll really be able to build the team he needs in the 2014 season with that additional cap space.

MLS COMMISSIONER: TFC PLANNING 'BOLD MOVES' TO IMPROVE PLAY

TORONTO -- The commissioner of Major League Soccer says Toronto FC is looking to make some "bold moves" to improve the product on the field.
Toronto managed a record of 5-21-8 this season and missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year since joining the league in 2007.
This year, the club posted franchise worsts for wins (five), losses (21), points (23), goals against (62) and winless string (14).
Commissioner Don Garber said the lack of success pains the league but added he has faith in the new ownership structure of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment as well as president Tom Anselmi.
Garber did not detail the planned moves but suggested they might be announced shortly.

You may be on to something there. Sign a player and give them a % of the team (a small one). Talk about an incentive to do well! If the Galaxy could write the "Beckham gets an MLS team" clause into his contract, we should be able to do something similar too

“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

TFC one of the highest-spending teams in the league doesn't have a single name on this list.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
