My thoughts exactly. (Don't know about Honduran but ???)

We have obviously picked up a decent amount of allocation money, Hassli has been re-signed, if it IS DK and Hassli up top they can make a killer combination. I know people don't like Hassli but I think that an attitude adjustment is possible.

I'm just wondering if there will be any good players left for the first 20 rounds of the Supplemental Draft. Might TFC find some additional diamonds in the rough in the first two rounds (the last two rounds will probably be a writeoff)?

Well I think the trade went well for us. Since Payne is strapped with 3 DP's and some expensive contracts he doesn't necessarily want the allocation money allows him to make some deals he couldn't do otherwise. He can still put together a reasonable team even if we have to deal with some aging vets for this season. After this season is over all the DP contracts are up and now he has the freedom to really do what he wants. I like it. Hope it all works out. Bekker and Welshman must be pretty excited to be playing close to home where they can get some good personal support in their first year.

Payne tells Asif he got "about 20% relief on the salary cap" with the trades, plus "got the players he wanted".

Definitely a good day for TFC!

20%? That's phenomenal! That's over $560k. I would have expected less than half of that. Add a player that he probably wanted anyway plus a decent local lad and that is a very good draft.

Yeah I was reading that and that is the question I guess. I think our biggest achilles heal right now is left and right midfield. (If we're playing in a 4-4-2 which I don't think is a given).

Hey everybody, nice job on recapping what's been going on!

I've been tied up and just read the last 7 pages. Excellent stuff..

KP obviously had a plan going in and has executed it. Well played Kevin.

That seems like a lot, not that I'm complaining. Perhaps he meant 20% on whatever cap space TFC has left over?

Wow. If thats true then TFC may actually have a chance at being competitive this year. It could be argued that we won this draft.

That would have been more like $20. It couldn't have been that. We've known for some time that TFC had practically zero cap space left.

    Yup!!!
Was pretty excited when I heard that!

    20%! 1/5th! $560k!

However you say it, it means opportunity for huge improvements to our club!

With $560K they can bring in players they see will be here long term. Then next year don't have to worry about being over the cap (Frings, Kov, Hassli, and Esks gone).

If our team was always destined to lose/fail/otherwise embarrass this city, the least they could do is do that while developing some local kids. Great to see. Hopefully the Raptors can nab some more GTA kids in their draft in a few months #YYZ

I remember it being tight, but not zero (not really sure where I got that impression). In any case, 560K sounds like it makes more sense when you combine it with Payne's quote that with the money gained, TFC can bring in one big player or a few (which to me means 2-4) middle-salary players.

That makes sense. The allocation cash for losing out on the playoffs 2 years ago was $220k. It could now be almost $280k. That means the total cash to spend, barring selling Hassli, is over $800k.

I'm happy. I think KP and the TFC team maximized our two high picks the best they could.

Outside a few players, there were not a lot of players in the draft ready to make a major impact on the MLS. TFC comes away with a very good amount in allocation, a couple local prospects, and now has room to make other decisions heading into the season. We've ended the day in much better shape than going in. That is about all one could ask.

I interpret "We doubled our Allocation Cash" as TFC had ~500k of allocation before the draft and today they doubled that amount adding another 500k to make 1 milllion (!!!!! !!!!!)

    Awesome moves by Payne.

On a more general note ... I'm really liking the new direction from all the way at the top of the MLSE pyramid. The Leafs and TFC are being run strategically and professionally.

That's a FANTASTIC deal! I don't think the two players we actually picked are the big deal of the draft, the allocation is the deal. BUT, the BONUS is that we also get two young non-international players into the squad. That's just a bonus, really!

Good job Payne! He just make MoJo's wheeling-and-dealing look like amateur!

This draft couldn't have gone any better. We picked up two Canadian kids in positions of need and got allocation from 3 different teams (four if you include the Portland trade.

I'm ecstatic. Can't wait to see who else Payne brings in.

Supplemental draft still to go. If Ashton Bennett's still on board we might as well take him, as he creates a ton of chances and has Canadian residency. Worst comes to worst they cut him at camp, but he was projected top 10 at one point. He just had a bad combine.

I thought we did really well today. Bekker ruled the combine, he and Welshman hooked up beautifully; Vancouver killed it, too, though. Hurtado is the steal of the draft. He's a beast, won both the speed test (convincingly) and the strength test at the combine, technically exceptional as well. Manneh is a great prospect.

How does it compare to Cochrane's wheeling-and-dealing?

Payne was the conductor of the draft, how many of the first round picks flowed through TFC (answer: 6 out of 19 !) ? Might as well have been Payne at the podium making announcements instead of Garber .
