Default One good thing about this season!

Don't we get the first pick in the draft since we came in last? Not too sure about this so I would love some input on who we should pick (if we even get the pick).

Yes, the Reds will have the first pick overall as there are no expansion teams coming into the league next year.

The question is: Who is the consensus #1 pick for the 2013 draft?

Well, judging on the few pieces of business we've seen Cochrane involved in, we'll trade it for a journeyman defensive midfielder who never plays, at the very least.

    Meh...

One draft isn't going to chance much for TFC. This isn't NBA where a first draft pick lands you a franchise player. MLS draft is good to pick up some young decent talent for cheap. Our best players will come through free agent signings.

It doesn't look like there's any consensus yet anywhere. I'd say Kyle Venter, Giuseppe Gentile both look interesting, maybe Aodhan Quinn if we decide to go with a playmaker, although that doesn't seem likely.

The number one pick in most people's eyes is Gyasi Zardes, CSU Bakersfield - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/10...si-zardes.html although he has played his youth soccer with the LA Galaxy so MLS might create another screw TFC rule and let the Galaxy take him on a homegrown tag.

If I were TFC I would draft him and then trade him to LA for players such as Franklin, Lopes and/or Stephens who could fit in automatically.

The player I like is Jared Watts, Wake Forest - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/10...red-watts.html a crazy midfielder who loves to tackle and Mark Sherrod, Memphis - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/10...k-sherrod.html a prolific goalscorer both in college and the PDL.

Of the seniors i like - London Woodberry, Maryland - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/09...ct-london.html who should be able to start in defence.

Not worth a first pick but two Canadians Kyle Bekker, Boston College - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/09...le-bekker.html and Emery Welshman, Oregon State - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/09...-welshman.html

Finally Brazilian Marcello Castro, Sacred Heart - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/10...-marcello.html who led Ottawa to the PDL title this summer.

That being said i don't imagine TFC to listen to me or anyone as they haven't before although i did predict there horrible season last march - http://enbsports.blogspot.ca/2012/03...12-player.html so maybe they should start

I wonder how many of these guys who are having their names thrown around have had the realization "oh crap, TFC gets the first pick, no way do I want to end up there". I just think it'd be really funny if the top 4 or 5 guys all just 'happened' to have really shit combines.

Are managers included in the draft? Maybe we should select one of those.

    Awesome work man!

They probably should listen to you, based on how much stat tracking you do.

How about working up a look at the lesser leagues that are affordable by MLS standards, places like South Africa, Angola, Egypt, Central America? It looks like you have numbers access, and it would give us an idea of who's a good buy based on an existing record of production (like your guy Sherrod; great strikers score at every level); also what do you think of Venter, the big centre half?

That's ok, I'm sure that Paul doesn't want them to play for TFC either. Bekker for one doesn't run hard enough for Mariner

Does anyone know if Daniel Haber is draft eligible? He is a local player who is second in NCAA scoring right now with 15 goals and 6 assists.

Also, in two starts this season and 11 substitution appearances former TFCA player Allando Matheson has 7 gaols for Uconn. He is averaging a goal every 93 minutes.

I'm guessing one does not want to bet against Aaron in fantasy leagues.

Pretty comprehensive stuff. Looking at the 2012 projections made is eye opening.

Sorry in advanced for my scattered thoughts as I try to organize what I would like to happen, and what I think might happen during the off-season. Though the realistic view is we get fucked over again, i'll be a bit positive.

Firstly with our draft pick I agree that we should get a player who is hopefully a generation addidas player as they always are and can slot into the first team or on the bench directly to make an impact at a low cost. I don't think this is really even debatable almost everybody would agree with it, unless somebody wants to trade the overall first pick.

My second thought is our goalkeeper situation with Kocic, Frei, Roberts, and Hall all on the roster. Do we even need four keepers? I think really you only need two keepers and perhaps a third just incase. Specifically with the way the MLS always has the option to pickup a spare goalkeeper for a week or two if we're injury ridden at the position its really unnecessary to waste salary on a third keeper. Sad to say with his amazing growth as a keeper the last year or two and the birth of his triplets but football is a business sometimes and he's an asset. Trade Kocic, resign him at an attractive salary to other clubs, and move him on somewhere that needs that strong keeper that he can be with a solid team infront of him. Kocic and Frei are both top quality keepers in this league, and the only reason I would move Kocic instead of Frei is that its my belief Stefan Frei is slightly better then Kocic due to his aerial abilities, he has that strength to come off his line and punch those balls away during those shakey moments! Next season I would like to see maybe Frei and Roberts, and if Mariner remains, Hall most likely.

With our managers position highly up for debate at the moment, I myself would like to see Mariner moved on but don't believe that he will with this being the case I would like to see Earl Cochrane 'promoted' away from the club or to a meaningless front office position and somebody with north american/mls slotted in to replace Earl as well he's basically a general manager isn't he? Incharge of player signings, scoutings, and all of that right? Mariner puts the team on the pitch, and tells him who he wants, but Cochrane does all the deals if i've got it correct? Frankly ever since MoJo was moved and this ... Mariner/Winter combination started I found it difficult to get a definite answer on who was incharge of what. We need somebody in our organization who can bring not only reputation and a positive influence but he also has to be able to swing those good bargain deals bringing in players with major league soccer experience not only players from england during the summer transfer window and those south american players who are cheap and have qaulity on the ball that everybody has a hard-on for lately. While i'm thinking about south american players that brings Joao Plata to mind hopefully we're able to regain him because frankly i've missed his abilities during champions league play and our one constant is the ability to get (CONCACAF) champions league football. Back to north american talent though, I think that if we even made it to the playoffs next year we have that possibility of just falling apart because we need those players with experience in the cup. I've always been an admirer of Mike Magee myself he's always stuck out for me on the right/left side his abilities to sometimes get centre and find the net because he can also play forward.

One of those chances you can get to get the mls experienced players are those older 28-32 year old veterans who arnt nessarly poor players just have been having contract negotiation problems, or have been replaced by a younger player and are not wanted anymore. Just to give an example of this situation, Bobby Boswell was up in the last wasnt he? and Bobby Convey, both are a good example of this if we were able to snatch a few of these guys up.

Specifically with the draft though I hope that not only we can get one of these players who can make a direct impact, id like if we could have for once our own marquee player our own Brek Shea, Omar Gonzalez.

Anyways this is long enough, just for once wanted to contribute something a bit more positive to the forums havn't been really using them much lately everythings just been 'why both discussing, this clubs shit' lately.
