DK is not flicking onto Johnson, He did nothing with any of the long ball launches today. The goals were results of wing play and a free kick.
Eckersley made one run as RB and another on the left flank where he went offside (not sure what he was doing there) and taking a 50 yard kick at goal. He has not been man of the match.
This is what I hate about the timing of the coaching change, the team was coming into a groove with a strong May and players coming back from injury. Now that the form is continuing Anselmi and Mariner are being hailed as geniuses. Its almost as if they timed their coup with the teams momentum ...

Come on now... you know that if any coach in any league ran the record Winter did with us in his second year as manager he'd be served the same fate. I hardly see it as any sort of cruel destiny, other than the fact we were slow to put him out of his misery. He would have been fired 3x over in other places.
TFC did what you'd expect a team to do. Take out the head guy and put someone internally in place for the remainder of the season. If PM struggles / doesn't work out, it's on to someone else at the end of the year. If he doesn't get results and we leave him in place for 2013 I'll go berserk. But for now, I'll stay silent.

Mariner seems to have lit a fire under a lot of the players' asses. I just wish he had better tactics to go along with the motivation.

Are you drunk? Seriously, I get how people are hesitant to jump on any more coach bandwagons after being burned so many times before, but if you can't see that the difference between the club's overall quality now and just a few weeks ago is night and day, then you need to get your eyes checked in the very least.
You know what? Everyone, listen up! I have some important news to tell all of you. Aron Winter was just not a good coach. There's no other way around it. He was out of his league with the position they gave him and could not adapt to the competitive realities of the league. I agree that there hasn't been enough time to properly evaluate Mariner's abilities, but so far, he's certainly posting better results than Winter.

The first goal was a result of (a great shot, terrible goalkeeping and) Koevermans pushing Di Vaio out of the way in the wall. The second goal came from Koevermans winning the ball from MTL's left back. The third goal was scored by Koevermans. And you're actually going to complain about him??

Some random game thoughts
It is often under rated the importance of a physical mid field enforcer, willing to get stuck in and contest every ball. In MLS clearly the luxury of a technically gifted one is not a luxury you can afford.
While the Frings goal was fortunate it did seem that TFC started to show a clinical tendency that was showing momentum when johnson and morgan combined for a give and go that was finished with authority by the in form striker: Danny K
TFC 3:0 is a beautiful scoreline.
Impact fans cheered their team on, down 3-0 and I really hope that spirit returns to BMO.

Soolsma played well and I was glad to see it.
I call winning 1-0, with the opposition scoring an own goal winning ugly. Not winning 3-0.
I believe people are just reacting to a fantastic win and perhaps overcompensating their joy in better results. We still have very few games under our belt but as it stands results are better.
I also believe we will never see what we saw with Winter again, anywhere. A team such as ours, with the history we had, and being told to have patience seeing the least productive progression of style with a dash of the worst amount of luck on top. I'm not going to mourn Winter leaving or wish he's back but I won't ignore he had a clear vision that was too slow to grasp with this club.
That's as much as I need to look back.

1. Taking out JDG again early? What was the rationale? Is JDG going to be the odd man out soon?
2. If Nesta comes in, who goes out? Aceval? Harden?

Well, TFC is playing ugly football at times, and I fear for the future of the Academy kids playing a totally different system, but it's nice to see Toronto win... especially against Montreal.
Frings' free kick was very good, but Amado gave some of the most outstanding free kick goals in TFC history, and also Laurent Robert's one-off was fantastic, before he mentally checked out of the team.

Jimmy Brennan's a few years back was much better...30 yards out and in the top corner...Frings was more down to the keeper screwing up...Isn't it nice to beat Montreal on their own turf three goals to nil while shutting up UM02?

It was nice to see Soolsma used and Eckersley moved back to his natural position. it's too bad it took an injury to instigate the change. Soolsma did a great job winning the ball in the midfield, making passes and not giving up possession cheaply. This is exactly what Dunfield should be, but can't do. I saw people post that Dunfield had a great game but to be honest I didn't see anything from him tonight or in the previous four game to show he deserves to play 90 minutes every night. I am just glad tonight it didn't come back to bite the team. I also don't think Lambe fits with the new formation. He seemed to be coming into form under Winter, but looks poor as a midfielder.
Anytime they can beat Montreal home or away I am a very happy man.
Yes, onward and upward. What I liked best about the game last night was Montreal weren't able tp play however they wanted. Whatever people think about Winter's "vision," the worst part of it for me was that no other MLS coach feared it - or was even very worried about it. I hated that our team had become an easy game for every other team om this league.
Montreal may not be a top team in this league, but beating them is still an accomplishment right now.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, I only saw the game at the point we were 1 nil up - and i have to say we looked impressive from that point. I was thrilled to see Soolsma in the line up and his assist on the 2nd goal - as well to see Morgan get his 3rd assist in the 2 games.
Let's hope we can keep this form up Saturday....and that Nesta is reala.....he certainly could command the backline
It was nice to see Frings get his first with TFC.. Very happy to see soolsma get back into a game, I thought he made an immediate impact when he came on.. I hope his appearance wasn't some sort of 'showcasing' for a deal out of here as I really think we could use his skills in our starting 11.. Also thought that Henry looked good once he came in, hope he's back in the starting lineup Saturday.
I managed to make the trek down from Ottawa with my son to see the game. Got to meet some U-Sector and RPB fans in Section 112. They sure make it hard on away fans with the seating arrangements - I don't think you could get any farther from the concession stands and washrooms. Missed 20 minutes of the first half trying to find &$^% parking.
The first goal was a nice trick play. While the Impact players were false-started by the overruns and focused on who was gonig to kick, Danny K quietly slid out of his space in the wall that let Frings hammer it through.
The flares and fireworks from the Ultras at the opposite end of the stands was impressive, as was their constant chanting - my son couldn't get "Allez Montreal" out of his head all night. Looking at the Impact Supporters, I felt like I was at a game in Eastern Europe with all the smoke and flame.
I can't say the game was totally longball on the part of TFC, probably 55% long kicks and the rest passing and shooting. I think some of Winter's passing-mentality has rubbed off on the players despite the change in formation, and that's probably a good thing. I have to grudgingly admit that Mariner seems to be getting results, though not quite the pretty soccer I'd like to see.
And Anselmi should still go. I would hate to see his bacon saved solely because improved results that he really had no hand in.
One of the nice things I saw last night was how the team responded in the second half.
Let's face it, both teams were horrible in the first. That was brutal footy to watch. But in the second half we played much better and were the better team.
It's good to see the team respond and some of that credit has to go to the coaches.
I hope that the academy graduates technical ability and tactical awareness will allow them to step into any system. Additionally the players on the TFC Senior squad be able to play multiple formations depending on the opponent and whether we are on the road. I wonder if we will see 4-3-3 again any time this season?!?
