This is a big reason I'm so freaking pissed off. MLSE makes a big hoopla, hires a 4-3-3 coach and assistant coach, long term vision la di da, sends us fancy books about it etc etc etc bullshit.

But they also hire a "director of player development" (or whatever screwed up title they gave Mariner) who totally does not believe in 4-3-3 or most other things the coach is doing. Obviously unsuccessful finding the correct players as a result. Instead of looking for somebody else in MLS or somewhere in the world with a 4-3-3 background, even with a different outlook on 4-3-3 like we see in this KC team.

So when the 4-3-3 coach gets yanked and the shadow coach gets instated, he starts a completely new formation midway in the season with no time to practice. We have two games a week for a while, I don't expect this to get any better within a few weeks.

It's likely they're paying him the rest of his contract - that's probably why they needed board approval to fire him.

Changes at the board level have the potential for real change. A few months ago in a newspaper article Anselmi admitted he needed board approval to fire the coach - that's probably why it happened at such a bad time (after a couple of good games), because they were waiting for the scheduled meeting.

But there's nothing to say that new board members will also need to be the final approval on coaching changes (which was probably really a money issue asthey have to pay out Winter's salary and Mariner likely gets a raise with the new job).

Bell have made huge changes with the way CTV is run, maybe they'll make big changes with MLSE as well.

Beach I love your posts and agree with you almost always. But here I got to say you seem overly optimistic at best.
Bell does not own MLSE, like they do CTV. It's only has a piece of the pie. As such, it going to be very political to get anything from a direction point of view from the board.
I suspect status quo from the board. They will defer to Tannebaum and senior executives on how the sports business end is run. The company after all makes money as is, why rock the boat. Bell is primarily concerned with the broadcast/media rights anyway. In the end they know squat about football.
