Default RIP DC United Barra Brava "elder" Chico

Note: I wasn't entirely certain where to put this, whether here or the RPB section, so mods, feel free to move as desired.

Last night, Javier "Chico" Solares died suddenly. He was involved with the Barra Brava supporters group for DC United for many many years. I met him when I flew down to DC with Connie for the TFC game there a few years ago. We (the TFC supporters that included CoachGT and his family, JC, and others) marched with the DC United crowd in support of finding a stadium solution, and then were graciously invited to partake in their tailgate, something that they rarely allow outsiders into.

Chico was a very friendly, upright guy, and was willing to talk about anything and more than happy to have a "brewski" with you. From reading comments from DC supporters and a number of my DC friends on twitter, he was like an older brother to almost everyone new to the Barra Brava.

Tonight, DC United is playing the Montreal Impact at RFK and having a minute of silence in the 12th minute of the game for Chico (11:00-11:59). Even the team and broadcast group is getting involved in it: http://www.dcunited.com/news/2012/04...-chico-solares

For those that knew Chico, there is a BigSoccer thread going for tributes and memories: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1935429

I had posted this earlier in the MLS Tifo thread as I didn't know where to put it.

    ***

Not necessarily tifo related but a long-time member of Barra Brava passed away.

    Story on it.

RIP Chico... thank you for taking care of us on that trip. A great loss to MLS SG community.
