Just as I thought, now I am starting the get pumped for the Home Opener and now le sigh...

Monday was looking to Wednesday's CCL match...
Then, Fring's injury news brought me down...
Thursday the excitement started to build for the opener...
Friday morning was TGIF & one more sleep to opener...
Friday late morning was WTF with Frei injury news...

I don't know what's a bigger roller coaster, the weather or being a TFC supporter right now? le sigh...

NOTES FROM TRAINING – MARCH 23

-Stefan Frei was treated on the pitch for 10-15 min. before being aircasted and leaving on crutches Friday. From my angle at the half-line, it looked as though Frei’s cleats caught the wet surface while entering a harmless tackle just outside his area. His weight appeared to cause a bone in his lower leg to fracture. More news later …

-My money is on head coach Aron Winter going with four in defence tomorrow, with Eckersley, Harden, Aceval and Morgan across the back line. Winter used it throughout training although he denied having made a decision following practice.

-Adrian Cann continues to progress. Cann was in full-team training and moved fairly well. He was vocal and looks close to a return, possibly as soon as 10 days.

-I spoke briefly with Torsten Frings as he concluded his individual workout. The German told me he’s feeling “okay” with a shrug. Expect the timeline (4-6 weeks) for his recovery to remain the same.

-Following training Winter said the club watched video of San Jose’s 1-0 loss to Houston last week. He went on to say the club will be ready.

Projected starting 11 following pre-game training:

    –Plata——Koevermans—–Soolsma
    ——————Johnson——————
    ——–Dunfield De Guzman ©———-
    Morgan—-Aceval—-Harden—-Eckersley
    ——————–Kocic———————–

I mostly like the lineup, but I'd personally prefer to see Johnson out right, and Silva given a start.

Also, we haven't seen Avila at all yet this season, have we?

I've never seen Emory play centre half and last week was his first MLS game. I don't know about playing him OOP in just his 2nd match at this level. Have you see Emory ever play CB before?
Yes but only in preseason, I believe it was against the ShitCaps. Not much you can tell from that game alone but he seems more comfortable than Maund. All I am saying is the pair of aceval and Emroy would be interesting because of the poise they have when the ball is at their feet. Maund seems to panic too fast and hoof the ball up field and that does not work out for him either because his long pass is shit. Sure we need him right now but when Cann comes back he's only going to play reserve matches for tfc. From what I have seen in the few games right now Aceval is our best CB with only 1-2 little mistakes he's mad during matches. Emroy last game in Seattle played out of position (LB) he is also left footed so his natural position is LCB where Aceval plays right now but so is Canns LCB so to get Emory adjusted now is the right thing to do. I would love to see him get the RCB start beside Aceval with Ecks and Morgan on the touch line. Winter does this and Tfc will have the ball 10-20 % more during the match than he quakes. ARON WINTER I hope your reading this post.

He played out on the left flank, out of his normal central position. Another odd Winter decision. He looked lost out there.

Yeah, was a strange one. Nothing more than a bench player imo.

Not really thrilled with playing Dunfield & DeGuzman ..... would rather invert the midfield triangle and get Silva on the field instead of Dunfield. San Jose was 14th of 17 in scoring last year, what are we afraid of? The type of goals that Wondolowski scores aren't really going to be negated by playing with 2 defensive mids ...... we've proven we can score goals so lets just gun these MF'rs down.

Plus I question the need for using Dunfield when he has no pace and athleticism and we're going to play a high defensive line anyway, he's just going to get compressed and have the game pass him by in midfield.

This is the lineup I'd like to see tomorrow:
    ---------Kocic
    Eck Harden Aceval Morgan
    ----------JDG
    -----Silva-----Avila
    Soolsma--Koev--Johnson-

Go for blood. The high line is a risky game, but in our system, if our attacking players pressure the ball higher up the pitch and cause turnovers in the other teams half we should have better success. This is one reason our midfield has been overrun a couple times. We're giving the opposition defenders too much time on the ball to calmly distribute to their mids. If we can keep possession, the interchangeability of our forward players should give a team like San Jose fits.

I think we're going to struggle tomorrow and unfortunately drop the home opener. Any time you have Dunfield and Harden projected in your starting lineup, you're going to have problems.

I was thinking the exact same thing!

    i would like to see
    -----------Kocic------------
    -Ecks-Emory-Aceval-Morgan-
    --------JDG-Dunfiled--------
    ------------Silva------------
    ----Johnson-Koef-Plata------

i hope Burgos comes on as a sub cuz i know dunfiled will f up tommorrow and i have a feeling he with silva will be the spark in the midfield

I like this. we're at home, we're not facing world-beaters here, it swaps Dunfield for Silva...looks like a win to me. and i do think this is an important game. options for 3 points against the West look like they'll be limited, this is probably one of our better chances to do that

Game Day! Gonna be important to keep the ball on the ground today as the swirling winds will be quite strong. Hope to see a solid effort from the boys, especially in containing Lenhart.

    C'mon you Reds!
