    MARTIN SMITH, SUN MEDIA

Montreal Impact coach John Limniatis is convinced his team will be able to beat Toronto FC July 22 to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League.
Limniatis said he wasn't impressed with Toronto's performance in a 2-2 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday that left the MLS squad needing a victory to go on to the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Champions League against Nicaraguan champions Real Esteli.

    Knight: Stayin' alive

Ben Knight, 10/07/08 at 9:17 AM EDT

Toronto FC faced a rather stark choice at halftime of last night's Voyageurs Cup Canadian Championship soccer match in Vancouver: score at least one goal in the second half, or be forced to score four or more against Montreal in the series finale on July 22.

    MLS News:

Beckham headlines roster for MLS all-star game
    LARRY MILLSON
    From Friday's Globe and Mail
    July 10, 2008 at 7:38 PM EDT

There should be at least one Toronto FC player on the pitch for the Major League Soccer all-star game at BMO Field in Toronto on July 24, but he is the ubiquitous player to be named.
No Toronto players were in the MLS first XI — led by top vote-earners David Beckham and Landon Donovan of the Los Angeles Galaxy —that was announced at a news conference yesterday.

Fingers crossed, Becks to lace 'em up in Toronto

    MORGAN CAMPBELL
    SPORTS REPORTER

Local soccer fans will finally get to see David Beckham in person, but they'll still have to wait to see which Toronto FC players will suit up for the Major League Soccer All-Star Game later this month.

Canada and Brazil were supposed to meet in what soccer quaintly calls a "friendly" last night. Someone forgot to tell the players.

Sunshine girl's legs are a bit...not digitally modified.

I think I can put this under today's news, but when I got the regular e-mail updates from the TFC, something stood out:
"Jeff Cunningham and the Reds attackers will come up against Jon Busch (#1) in the Chicago goal."
LMAO. Yea, because Cunningham is the TFC's main player....

"Of course, as is the custom of many teams that feature players with only one name, the Brazilians also seemed to fall over at the merest hint of a stiff breeze off Lake Ontario."

    TFC doesn't impress Impact coach
    By MARTIN SMITH, SUN MEDIA

MONTREAL -- Montreal Impact coach John Limniatis is convinced his team will be able to beat Toronto FC July 22 to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League.

"The Whitecaps helped us out a lot, but only if we can finish the job on BMO Field," Limniatis said yesterday. "The Reds played a better match in Vancouver than they did in front of their own fans eight days before, but they didn't impress me much.

"They don't seem to be a well-oiled machine," the coach added. "Their game is missing some flexibility."

Toronto FC, meanwhile, waived Andrea Lombardo, who once was considered a rising Canadian star.

The 21-year-old forward -- previously a member of the Canada under-20 World Cup squad -- was acquired as a developmental player in 2007.

Let's hope on the 22nd we can make this twit eat his words!

Agreed....although if our boys need any extra motivation at this point, something is seriously wrong.

Default MLS in no rush to add teams in Canada (As told by the National Piss)

TORONTO - Major League Soccer likes you, Canada. It really, really likes you.
It is just not ready to make a commitment, you understand. At least not beyond Toronto FC.
"The Canadian markets clearly would be successful for an MLS soccer team to come up here," MLS deputy commissioner Ivan Gazidis said yesterday at BMO Field where he unveiled the first 11 players named to the league's all-star team that will play West Ham United on July 24 in Toronto.

More bad reporting masquerading as jounalism here: http://www.nationalpost.com/todays_p...html?id=646034
"Failure simply isn't an option at this stage. TFC pushed its chips to the middle of the table when it splurged on Bradley and Defoe and reinforced its bet by making savvy acquisitions elsewhere. This collection of players is capable of delivering on the promises made during the close season. There are no more excuses available for TFC. Only success will continue the process of atoning for the past and establishing a higher standard for the future." FOX Sports

Hot-shot Sinclair on the mark as Canada battles Brazil to tie.

As they took a lap around BMO Field, with many in the crowd of more than 13,000 standing and cheering a team they seldom get to see, the members of Canada's Olympic women's soccer team basked in the adoration, if not the glory of victory.

Hey f*ck face Limniatis, we beat your fucking "machine", so shut your mouth.
It's funny how this guy's saying this shit, while we beat his "machine".

    Never under-estimate "dressing room material"...

In every sport, even in the Cup Finals or Superbowl, you often hear athletes referring to quotes or actions that pushed their anger and motivation over the edge...

This idiot is egging us on - I hope he's impressed at himself when we come out swinging...

A good example would be the Canada-USA women's hockey gold medal game at the Olympics when the Canadian player said the USA team had the Canadian flag on the floor in their dressing room.

An MLS suspension for Blanco is not going to happen, though a U.S. Open Cup suspension should come down soon. And for those of you wondering, Chicago next faces D.C. United on Aug. 16th at Toyota Park. The Fire won't be returning to D.C. during the regular season, but as we have seen in recent years, there is always the post-season.

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

Gazidis said he would do little to try to reign in the behaviour of the streamer-happy faithful at BMO Field.
"We don't want to kill passion. In fact, quite the opposite," Gazidis said.
"So we're not banning streamers, but we are trying to work with the fans. This is largely a self-policing effort by the fans to make sure it doesn't go too far and doesn't impact what's going on on the field."
I don't see us throwing streamers or turning on the huge passion during the all-star game to impress all those watching considering the expected silent protest we're planning.

This is classic motivational billboard material that John Carver should post in the TFC locker room. If this article doesn't fire up the boys to dominate Montreal in the final I'm not sure what will...
