All I can say is Mckenna will not be a DP if he signs with TFC. That you can take to the bank

and you wonder why expats don't like Canadians, it's crap like this spouted by someone who has been watching football for 2-3 yrs. we are crying out for a quality centre back, then next a centre mid. Seriously getting really pissed off with the shite Canadians talk about a sport they know vey little about, stick to hockey guys
Personally I'd be very excited to see Samaras join the team. Not only because I'm Greek, but because he showed that he was pretty good at getting fed hoof-balls from his defenders and holding it until he gets some reinforcements. He can dribble pretty well too.
I think it's best we all ignore that comment.
Still waiting for the other shoe to drop for TFC. Other teams have been active and so far all we've done is unload... I would have hoped things would have been more clear cut. Regardless of the system it's been clear we've needed new players for months.
Whoever TFC sings in the next coming days maybe they can circumvent the cap a bit if possible. Bring in a stud defender give him dp status and pay him millions (common ML$E!) it will look like this:
2012 : 15,000,000
2013:50k
2014:50k
3 year contract 1 year DP 2nd and 3rd non dp
Next player a solid CAM (maybe del piero)
2012 100k
2013 Dp
2014 Dp
Can tis be done
This would be IMO a terrible move from any FO, if the DP is an older player.
The guy would have zero motivation to play after 2012.
I hope the FO is looking at young players to sign as DPs. We need to take advantage of the young DP rule, not put another 335k against the cap by signing an over the hill star
Unfortunatly young players of DP calibre are not that interested in coming to mls. MLS really need to take advantage of solid financial status of the league where players get paid a the time.
Well someone predicated the correct centre back: It's Swedish defender Olof Mellberg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olof_Mellberg
http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/69/tr...to-sign-sweden
I like it, I thought Mellberg played very well at Euro's, has played in physical leagues, and looks to be a strong defensive leader we need
Side before self, every time - The one and only Billy Bremner
Supporting TFC and Leeds United : Never a dull moment
There are few young DPs in this league that are doing well, Fredy Montero and Fabián Castillo. Not surprising both are young Colombian players. If you ever hear Tim Vickery talk about about young Colombians, he says when they talk about furthering their careers by playing abroad, they always mention playing in the MLS.
Mellberg?
DOB: 3 September 1977
This guy will be 35 in less than 2 months!
If will be signed would be a huge mistake to guarantee him more than 1 year.

Tfc only need like year and half out of mellberg, until all the young defenders mature enough.
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

Mellberg was a complete boss at the Euro's. He's worth a half year at DP money to prove himself.

how about we sign him till the end of the season on a DP contract with 1.5 years worth of salary, then sign him to a modest wage next year. My personal feelings about this is if we`re going to go after an ancient CB, why didn`t we go after Nesta who was willing to sign for less than DP money?

Hmmm, you have a good point here...
If TFC sign Mellberg, it won't even be his first time at BMO Field.
Mellberg was on Aston Villa when they played TFC in 2007. Played the first half of the friendly (had to look it up).
